Design the structure of your form

Updated over 3 weeks ago

Before adding any questions, you need to create the basic structure of your form. The structure defines how information is organized and how it will appear to site users and participants.

How the structure works

  • Sections → highest level (for example, a visit in an eCRF).

  • Sub-sections → steps or forms inside a section.

  • Questions → live under each sub-section.

The exact behavior depends on the module:

  • eCRF → Each section is a visit. Each sub-section is a form. Questions appear inside the form.

  • ePRO → Each question is displayed individually to participants. They do not see section or sub-section titles.

  • eConsent → Mostly composed of instructions. The structure is reflected in the final signed PDF.

  • Recruitment → Works like ePRO (questions are shown individually).

  • Subject Database → Same structure as eCRF, but in the subject profile, questions are shown individually.

Build your structure

  1. Go to the Builder.

  2. Create at least one section and one sub-section.

  3. Click Save.

  4. Once saved, you can navigate between sections and sub-sections from the left menu and start adding questions.

💡 Tips for efficiency:

  • You don’t need to set up the entire structure from the start. Create only the first visits/forms you need, then use the duplicate option to quickly replicate sections, sub-sections, or questions later. This avoids repetitive work and keeps your design flexible.

  • Save time by using templates for common forms (e.g. Demographics, Adverse Events) instead of recreating them from scratch.
