Read the platform audit trail

See every login attempt and role change made outside the study modules, filter the log, and export it to Excel

The platform audit trail is the record of what happened at the platform level, outside any particular study. It is where you look when you need to know who logged in, who failed to, and who changed a role.

šŸ”‘ Prerequisite: Audit trails (global) (Access) on your platform role.

What it records

  • Login attempts, successful and failed.

  • Role changes, including who made them.

  • Any other action taken at platform level, outside Datacapt's study modules.

šŸ’” Tip: this is not the only audit trail. Each EDC study has its own, recording what happened to that study's data. If you are chasing a changed answer or a signature, look in the study's audit trail. If you are chasing an access question, you are in the right place.

Open and filter the log

The platform audit trail

šŸ› ļø Step by step guide

  1. Go to Settings and open Audit Trails.

  2. Use the filters to narrow to what you are looking for.

  3. Select Details on a row to see the full entry.

  4. To take the log out of the platform, export it in Excel format.

The log cannot be edited

Nobody can modify or delete an audit trail entry, at any permission level. That is the point of it: an audit trail that could be edited would not be evidence of anything.

šŸ’” Tip: the Excel export is what you hand to an inspector or auditor who wants to work through the log themselves. Export with the filters already applied rather than sending the whole thing, so the file answers their question instead of inviting a second one.
