Written by Kate Biel

šŸ“ Overview

Hybrid Hourly (Dual Roles) lets you track and pay hourly workers who perform multiple job roles at different hourly rates within the same pay period.

Payroll automatically applies the correct rate to each role, so you don't have to calculate or adjust earnings manually.

šŸ› ļø Setting Up Hybrid Hourly (Dual Roles)

Setting up Dual Roles only needs to be done once for each worker. The video below walks through the process, or you can follow the steps underneath it.

  1. Navigate to Worker Profile.

  2. Select the Pay Types tab.

  3. Add or edit an Hourly pay type.

  4. Enter a Role Name (for example, Dog Walking, Administration, or Pet Grooming).

  5. Configure the hourly rate for that role.

  6. Repeat for any additional roles the worker performs.

āš™ļø Automatic Rate Application

When hours are synced to payroll, they're grouped by role. The correct hourly rate is automatically applied, and earnings are calculated separately for each role, so no manual adjustments or custom earnings entries are needed.

For example: If a worker logs 20 hours as Dog Walking at $20/hour and 10 hours as Administrative at $15/hour, payroll calculates $400 for Dog Walking and $150 for Administrative, for a total of $550, while keeping each role's earnings on a separate line.

šŸ“Š Overtime & Payroll Run Visibility

When a worker performs multiple roles with different hourly rates, payroll automatically applies overtime based on applicable federal, state, and local labor rules. This includes a weighted (blended) overtime rate across the worker's roles, as well as daily overtime and double-time where required, so you don't need to calculate any of it manually.

During payroll review, you'll see separate earnings lines for each role, including the role, hours entered, and calculated earnings, so you have a clear breakdown before submitting payroll.
