Holiday Pay Rules

Learn how to set up Holiday Pay Rules to automatically apply premium pay rates for holidays or other designated pay days during payroll processing.

Written by Kate Biel

📝 Overview

Holiday Pay Rules let you set a premium pay rate once and have it applied automatically whenever a configured holiday or premium pay day falls within a payroll period.

This saves you from manually calculating and adjusting holiday pay for each affected worker every time payroll runs.

🛠️ Setting Up Holiday Pay Rules

Setting up Holiday Pay Rules only needs to be done once. The video below walks through the process, or you can follow the steps underneath it.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Pay Rules.

  2. Turn on the Holiday Pay toggle.

  3. Select the Holiday Pay Rate multiplier (1.5x or 2x).

  4. Select the workers the rule applies to. You can choose individual workers or select All to apply the rule to your entire workforce.

  5. Click Add a Holiday.

  6. Enter the holiday name.

  7. Select the holiday date.

  8. To add another holiday or premium pay day, click Add a Holiday again and repeat steps 5 through 7.

⚙️ How Holiday Pay Rules Apply During Payroll

During payroll processing, Holiday Pay Rules automatically identify any configured holidays or premium pay days that fall within the current payroll period and apply the selected multiplier to eligible workers' hourly rates.

🧠 For example: If a worker's hourly rate is $20 and the Holiday Pay Rate multiplier is set to 1.5x, that worker's holiday pay rate for the day is $30 per hour.

You can still review and edit holiday hours before submitting payroll, so you keep full visibility and control over the final pay run.

🔄️ Automatic Calculation During Data Sync

If you use data sync to import worker hours from Time To Pet, Holiday Pay Rules still apply automatically. When a configured holiday or premium pay day falls within the payroll period being synced, the premium rate is calculated and applied to those imported hours the same way it is during a manual payroll run.
