How do I move my Fire Studio 7 license to another computer?

Moving a FS7 License

Written by Rich Merritt

Before You Begin — EXPORT Your Simulations

If you want to keep any simulations you've created, use the Export function before moving your license. Open each sim in Fire Studio and click Export (not just Save). Export them to a folder that's backed up externally in case of hard drive failure, loss, or theft. This also works for moving sims to a shared drive, cloud drive, or external/thumb drive.

See our Video Center for a walkthrough on Saving, Exporting, and Publishing, including the difference between a Saved sim and an Exported simulation.

Step 1 — Deactivate on Your Current Computer

Your computer must be connected to the internet to proceed.

  1. Start Fire Studio 7.

  2. If the License panel isn't showing, press the R key to view your license information.

  3. Click the Deactivate button.

  4. Answer Yes to connect to the internet and deactivate.

  5. Once successfully deactivated, you can uninstall the software.

Note: If deactivation fails, you may not have admin rights or may not be connected to the internet. Contact your IT department if needed.

Step 2 — Install and Activate on Your New Computer

Once deactivated, install Fire Studio 7 on the new computer and use your same license ID and password to activate it. For installation help, visit our Video Center and start with the Accessing your Customer Portal, Installing Fire Studio, and Activating your Software tutorials.

Can't Access the Original Machine?

If you no longer have access to the computer where your license is activated (lost, stolen, or decommissioned), contact Digital Combustion support. We can deactivate the license from our end so you can activate it on a new machine.
