What Is Device Formatting?

Device formatting (also referred to as a data wipe) ensures that company data is removed from a device once it has been returned as part of an offboarding order.

Formatting is an optional request that must be made during the offboarding process and is handled after the device arrives at a supported warehouse.

When Can Device Formatting Be Requested?

During Offboarding Submission

  • Device formatting must be requested at the time you submit an offboarding order.

  • The request is made directly within the offboarding flow.

⚠️ Important: Formatting requests cannot be guaranteed if they are submitted after the offboarding order is completed.

Supported Warehouses (Current)

Device formatting is currently supported only at the following warehouse locations:

  • Singapore

  • United States

  • United Kingdom

  • Brazil

  • India

  • Germany

  • Philippines

  • Canada

ℹ️ Disclaimer:
This list is not binding and may change over time based on operational capacity, local regulations, or service availability. Support for additional locations may be added, and existing locations may change without prior notice.

How the Formatting Process Works

  1. Formatting is requested during offboarding.

  2. The device is delivered to a supported warehouse.

  3. Formatting is executed based on the option selected.

  4. Once complete, the device is marked as formatted.

Available Formatting Options

Formatting is requested per device. Depending on your setup, one of the following methods may be used:

MDM-Based Formatting

  • Formatting is triggered using your existing MDM solution (for example, Jamf or Intune).

  • You will be asked to provide the required wipe or unlock credentials.

  • The wipe command will be sent in advance by the client, and without coordination with the warehouse

⚠️ Automatic Execution - No Scheduling or Coordination

The wipe command is initiated in advance and remains queued until the device is powered on and connected to the internet, at which time it will execute automatically. Coordination of timing, scheduling, or appointments with the warehouse is not supported under this process.

Manual Formatting

  • Formatting is performed directly by the warehouse team.

  • This option must be explicitly requested by you

Timeline:
Once all required information is provided, formatting is typically completed within up to three weeks, depending on warehouse processing schedules.
