About This Tutorial

Any of your students can swap lesson dates and times with any other student. For this to happen, two things need to be set:

  • Each student needs to have a Duet account.

  • Lesson swapping feature and notifications are turned on.

Note: If you need to create a Duet account for your students, see these two tutorials:

Note: If you need to turn on lesson swapping and notifications, see Turn on Lesson Swapping and Notification tutorial.

Swapping lessons is a three step process:

  1. Student A asks student B to swap lessons with them.

  2. Student B accepts the lesson swap.

  3. Teacher approves the lesson swap.

This tutorial shows you all the steps needed to make it happen.

Student A Asks Student B to Swap

John Williams wants to swap lesson times with J.S. Bach. They both have a lesson on the same day. Bach's is at 10am and John's is at 1pm.

The first thing that needs to happen is Williams needs to go into his Duet account and ask Bach to swap with him. Here are instructions for the student:

  1. Click on Calendar.

  2. Click on the lesson time that you prefer to have (the lesson you want to swap to). In this example, it is Bach’s 10am lesson.

This will open up the Edit Lesson popup box.

  3. In the Edit Lesson popup box, click on the Request Lesson Swap button.

This will open up the Lesson Swap Request popup box.

  4. In the Lesson Swap Request popup box, click in the drop down box and choose which of your lessons you want to swap. In this example, we will choose Monday 6/6/2022 1:00pm - 1:30pm (John).

  5. If you wish, you can send a message to the person you want to swap lessons with.

  6. Click on the Send Swap Request button.

The teacher is sent an email about the lesson swap.

J.S. Bach is also sent an email about the lesson swap.

Student B Accepts Lesson Swap

The next thing that needs to happen is J.S. Bach needs to log into his Duet account and accept the lesson swap. Here are instructions for the student:

  1. Click on Calendar.

  2. Above your calendar is a green box letting you know there is a lesson swap request. To accept, click on the Yes, let’s swap button.

This will open up the Swap Successful popup box.

  3. In the Swap Successful popup box, click on Send request to teacher button.

An email is sent to the teacher letting her know the lesson swap was accepted by you.

Also, an email is sent to the student who requested the swap letting him know that you have accepted.

Teacher Accepts Lesson Swap

As a last step, the teacher needs to log into her Duet account and accept the lesson swap.

  1. Click on Calendar.

  2. Above your calendar is a green box letting you know there is a lesson swap request that both students have agreed to. To accept, click on the Yes, let’s swap button.

This will open up the Swap Successful popup box.

  3. In the Swap Successful popup box, click on the See it on calendar button.

The following email is sent to the teacher, the student who requested the swap, and the student who agreed to the swap. Letting everyone know the swap has been accepted by the teacher.

The teacher and the two students will now see, in their calendars, that the lessons have been swapped. Here is how it looks in the teachers calendar. You will notice that the lessons have been swapped.
