Getting started without a resume

How to create a new resume on EarnBetter if you need to start from scratch (ie: if you don't have a resume to start with)

Updated over 12 months ago

Step 1: Go to "Documents" Tab

Once you're signed in to EarnBetter, go to your "Documents" tab. On desktop, this lives in the top left corner of your screen. On mobile, you'll access "Documents" through the menu in the top right.

Step 2: Click "Resume" under "Want to generate a new document?"

Once you're in "Documents", you can click the "Resume" button to generate a new one.

Step 3: Choose "No, re-upload and start from scratch"

If you need to build a new resume from scratch, you will click the second box.

Step 4: Click "I don't have a resume"

On the next screen, you'll select "I don't have a resume" in the bottom left corner (on desktop).

Reminder: if you have a LinkedIn profile or an Indeed resume, you can save either of those as a PDF and upload that instead of starting from scratch. This could help you save time.

Step 5: Enter the job title

Type in the name of the job title that you'll be using this resume for. We will tailor your resume based on the types of jobs you'll be applying for.

Step 6: Start populating information into your resume

You will have the chance to enter information into the following sections listed below. Click the bottom arrow next to each section to expand it and add information.

  1. Header: personal information such as name, email, phone number, etc.

  2. Summary: high-level overview of your experience and what you're looking for next

  3. Work History: click "add work experience" for each job you want to add to your resume. We would recommend including your most recent and relevant experience.

  4. Education: add in any education you want to appear on your resume.

  5. Certifications: feel free to add any relevant certifications

  6. Skills: we'll suggest some skills based on the type of job you're applying for - you can add those and/or you can add your own. You'll want to be comprehensive in this section - it's important because some recruiters search through an ATS with certain keywords so you want to make sure your resume will appear in the most amount of search queries.

  7. Custom Section: if you want to add another section to your resume such as "Volunteer Work" or "Project Work", you can create a custom section.

Please note that you can move sections around if you want to. Click the 6 dots on the left side of section you want to move - you can then drag and drop. So if you want to move "skills" above "work experience", that is an option. And so on and so forth. Click here for a full article on how to update and edit your resume.

Step 7: Use AI to rewrite sections of your resume (optional).

Once you enter a little bit of information into the "Summary" and "Work Experience" sections, you can use our AI feature to rewrite the information you've provided. Just click the button "Rewrite summary/description with AI" and you'll be prompted with 3 different options to select from.

You can also edit anything by clicking into the various sections in the left side bar.

Step 8: Now you have a new resume!

Next, you'll see a preview of your new resume.

If you want to make any edits to your resume, you can hit "Content" or "Design" in the top right of your resume. There is another article dedicated to updating + editing your EarnBetter resume, so visit this help page for more details on the full suite of options.

You can download by hitting "download" in the top right corner.

If you hit "finish", you'll be taken back to your documents and this resume will be saved in your "resumes" section - you can reference back to it anytime.

If you have any issues downloading your resume, please see this article.

The most common download issue is on mobile devices. If you are on a mobile device, ensure you are accessing EarnBetter directly via your browser (instead of inside of another application like Gmail, TikTok or Instagram).

If you are inside of another application, please navigate directly to https://earnbetter.com from a new browser, login and you should be able to download your file. The documents will be saved to whatever your default location is set up on your mobile device. Many third party applications like TikTok or Instagram remove the ability to download.
