Response Due Dates and Review Reminders

How due dates, reminders, and deadlines work

Setting response due dates

When creating a review cycle, you set response due dates for when reviews should be completed. You can:

  • Set one due date for the entire cycle, or

  • Enable individual due dates for different review types or participants (for example, upward + peer vs. manager).

How due dates work

Response due dates are used to schedule reminders — they do not automatically close reviews or change review statuses.

  • Reviewers can still submit after the due date.

  • Reviewers who already submitted can edit their responses until the due date.

  • To finalize a cycle, an admin must manually mark it Complete.

  • Editing permissions automatically stop once the due date passes.

This gives you flexibility to extend deadlines informally without reconfiguring the cycle.

How to change a due date after the cycle has started

You can update response due dates at any time, even after a cycle is live — for the whole cycle or for individual reviews.

For the whole cycle:

  1. Open the review cycle and go to the Settings tab.

  2. Find Response due date.

  3. Set the new date and save. Reminders automatically re-schedule around the new date.

For an individual review or review type:

  1. Open the cycle and go to the review/participant (or the review type, e.g. manager vs. peer).

  2. Update its individual due date and save.

Because due dates don't close reviews, extending a date shifts reminders and keeps reviews open for people who haven't submitted yet — you don't need to relaunch the cycle. To let someone edit a review they've already submitted after the due date has passed, an admin reopens it for them — see Editing and Reopening Submitted Reviews.

Review reminders

Effy AI sends automatic reminders to reviewers and cycle admins as due dates approach, via Email and Slack (if the Slack integration is enabled). You can customize reminder timing during cycle setup.

Reminder schedule

Automated reminders are sent according to the response due date schedule:

  • Every Monday

  • 1 day before the due date

  • On the due date

  • 1 day after the due date

Reminders are delivered once per day to each participant, at an optimal time based on their typical activity in the platform.

Important notes

  • Response due dates do not affect review statuses.

  • Reviews remain open until the admin completes the cycle manually.

  • Editing permissions stop once the due date passes. To reopen editing for a submitted review, an admin uses Send for editing (see Editing and Reopening Submitted Reviews).
