Using QR Codes and Links in the Pharmacy

Use in-pharmacy QR codes and links to launch consultations on-site: from the aisles, intake, or the waiting area.

Updated this week

In-pharmacy QR codes allow patients to start a consultation in just a few seconds, directly at the pharmacy. They can be placed in aisles, at intake, in the waiting area, or near vaccination zones.

Using Promotional Materials

Promotional materials include posters that allow patients to initiate a consultation by simply scanning a QR code.

What Is an In-Pharmacy Link?

An in-pharmacy link is an Empego link specifically designed for use within a physical pharmacy location. It generates a QR code that patients can scan using their phone.

💡 Why Use the Right Type of Link?

When a form is completed in the pharmacy, you must use an in-pharmacy link.
Two key behaviors are specific to this link type:

  • It asks the patient whether they want to wait or be called back later.

  • If they choose to wait, the system prompts them to give their name at intake to be added to the queue.

Where to Find In-Pharmacy Links

  1. Log in to Empego with an Owner or Pharmacist account.

  2. Click your name in the upper-right corner.

  3. Select "Shareable public links."

  4. Use the search bar to find the reason for consultation (e.g., urinary tract infection, smoking cessation).

  5. In the results, locate the In-pharmacy link section and either:

    1. Copy the link

    2. Download the QR code

You can order the 9 × 10 cm format specially designed for aisles using our order form.

Vaccination Area and Waiting Room

If your pharmacy provides vaccination services, here are some strategies to include QR codes:

Near the vaccination area:

  • Eligibility for shingles vaccine (Shingrix)

  • HPV Immunization Needs Assessment

  • Immunization Needs Assessment

💡 Immunization Needs Assessment strategy

Many patients aged 50 and over are eligible for multiple vaccines, but are unaware of it. Empego allows you to assess their immunization needs using a simple QR code.

How to Implement This Strategy

  1. Display a specific QR code linked to the Immunization Needs Assessment questionnaire:

    • In the waiting room, where the patient waits after vaccination

    • Near the vaccination area or intake

  2. When a patient receives a vaccine (e.g., flu, COVID, shingles), they must wait 15 minutes on-site. Take advantage of this time:

💬 "While you wait, would you like to check if you're eligible for other vaccines? Just scan this QR code with your phone to complete a few questions."

  1. The patient completes the form on their phone, which:

    • Informs the pharmacy of their history and needs.

    • Allows for a delayed clinical assessment (no need for immediate consultation).

    • Helps avoid missed opportunities.

  2. Once the form is submitted:

    • The system notifies the pharmacy of relevant vaccines for that patient.

    • A team member can call the patient within the following days or weeks to recommend vaccines (e.g., Shingrix, tetanus, pneumococcal).

Naloxone

  • Place a QR code poster specific to the Naloxone questionnaire in any of these locations:

    • Near intake

    • In the first-aid or emergency product section

    • In the waiting area
