Track your horse's heart rate with a Polar sensor

Connect a Polar H10 before you ride to see live heart rate and full data afterward. iPhone and Premium.

Connect a Polar H10 heart rate sensor to Equilab to see your horse's heart rate live while you ride, and the full heart rate data afterward. The sensor is optional: Equilab tracks your trainings and gaits with your phone alone, and doesn't sell sensors of its own.

⭐ This is a Premium feature. To see your horse's heart rate in Equilab, you need Premium or a free trial. See Start Premium or a free trial.

Before you start

  • The Polar integration works only on iPhone, with the Polar H10 sensor. It isn't available on Android.

  • Connect the sensor before you start tracking. You can't connect it during a training.

Connect your Polar sensor

  1. Fasten the sensor on your horse as Polar's instructions describe. The sensor must be picking up your horse's heart rate before it can connect to Equilab.

  2. In Equilab, open the Profile tab and tap the orange cog icon in the top-right corner to open Settings.

  3. Tap Polar Heart Rate sensor.

  4. Tap Connect to Polar HR Sensor.

  5. When Equilab asks for Bluetooth access, allow it and follow the steps on the screen.

  6. On the Polar Heart Rate sensor page, check that your sensor shows as connected.

  7. Start tracking.

While you ride, your horse's current heart rate shows on the tracking screen. After you save the training, you see the full heart rate data on the Training Summary and in Detailed Stats. See Detailed Statistics explained.

Your horse's heart rate data from a Polar sensor in Equilab

Polar Heart Rate data while tracking

If you record with an Apple Watch in Remote mode, with your iPhone along, the watch shows a heart rate icon while the sensor is connected. Heart rate isn't recorded with Apple Watch Standalone. See Record a ride with your Apple Watch.

If the sensor doesn't connect

Check these in order:

  • You see "Please enable Bluetooth": turn on Bluetooth in your iPhone's Control Center. Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap the Bluetooth icon, which turns blue when Bluetooth is on. Then go back to Profile > Settings > Polar Heart Rate sensor in Equilab and connect again.

  • Sensor position: check that the sensor is fastened correctly and picking up your horse's heart rate. The sensor can't connect before it detects a heart rate.

  • Sensor model: Equilab works only with the Polar H10.

  • Phone: the Polar integration works only on iPhone.

If the sensor still doesn't connect, contact support with your Polar sensor model, a screenshot of the Polar Heart Rate sensor page and what you've already tried.

If a training has no heart rate

To record your horse's heart rate, the Polar sensor must be connected before you start tracking. You can't connect it during a training. Before your next ride, check the connection:

  1. Fasten the sensor on your horse and check that it's picking up your horse's heart rate.

  2. In Equilab, go to Profile > Settings > Polar Heart Rate sensor.

  3. Check that your sensor shows as connected. If it doesn't, tap Connect to Polar HR Sensor.

  4. Start tracking and check that your horse's heart rate shows on the tracking screen.

If the sensor won't connect, see the checks under "If the sensor doesn't connect" above. If you record with an Apple Watch, use Remote mode with your iPhone along: heart rate isn't recorded with Apple Watch Standalone.

If the sensor showed as connected but your training still has no heart rate, contact support with your Polar sensor model and the date and time of the training.
