Summary
In this guide we will take you through the steps of working with Eve to analyze depositions. First you will upload all of your depositions and set your instructions, then you will ask Eve to analyze and extract key information from each document (doing a comparison across depositions as needed). This step-by-step guide will take you through this process with sample messages to use with Eve.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Upload Documents Relevant To The Case
Upload the depositions that you are analyzing. This can be one deposition or multiple.
💡 Pro Tip: If you are uploading multiple depositions, and their names are not clear, you can rename the documents in Eve so that you can reference them easily as you analyze and compare.

Step 2: Set the Instructions Of Your Project
You can now set Eve “Instructions”. Instructions are for high-level information about you as a user, your firm, your preferences and any pertinent background information you like to provide to Eve when working with Eve on a particular task. Read more about instructions here.
🗒️ Example Instructions: You are a highly skilled associate attorney at a plaintiff's litigation firm specializing in employment and labor law. You are careful, accurate, competent, and always provide the best legal advice and services possible for your clients.
You are going to help me analyze crucial facts and inconsistencies between multiple depositions that I’ve uploaded.
Wherever needed you fill in information on documents or letters you draft, your firm's information as is follows:
Firm name: Eve legal
Attorney Name: Eve Smith
Title: Managing Partner
California bar number: 123456
Address: 123 Fake Street, Beverly Hills, CA, 90210
Phone:310.555.1234
email: eve@eve.legal
As you can see in the above example: these instructions do a few things:
Tell Eve about yourself and your firm
Tell Eve who you would like her to be
Tell Eve what role you’d like her to play, and how to answer your questions
You can modify and tweak the instructions to match the specifics of your preference and your case.
💡 Pro Tip: Use the “Teach Eve” button to save your instructions so that you can easily re-use them later. Read more about teaching Eve skills here.
Step 3: Analyze and Summarize Your Depositions
Now you can begin to have Eve analyze and summarize your depositions.
It’s easy, just ask. Be as specific as possible and provide Eve with any context that may be important, as seen in the below examples.
💬 Example Message: I am analyzing transcripts of depositions that recently occurred. I'd like you to help me identify all key facts present in the transcripts. Please read through each deposition thoroughly. For each deposition, please list out all of the different facts and statements made by the witness.
But you don’t need to stop there.
For instance, you can ask to find all of the key references to one event across multiple depositions:
💬 Example Message: Can you summarize what each deponent said about the days leading up to the termination of Darren. Provide direct quotes to the documents where possible.
Alternatively, you can have Eve focus on one document at a time, giving direction on what key points to focus on for each witness. There is no right or wrong way to ask Eve, just remember to be as specific as possible and ask follow-ups as you get information from Eve.
(Optional) Step 4: Identify Inconsistencies
If you have multiple depositions, Eve can help identify inconsistencies in the testimony. After creating the summaries of each document, you can ask Eve to find the inconsistencies.
💬 Example Message: Create a summary detailing any inconsistencies or inconsistent testimony within these depositions. Provide excerpts with citations for the inconsistency section.
As above, continue to iterate with Eve as needed to get the responses that you are looking for.
By following these steps you should be able to analyze depositions and identify inconsistencies in a matter of minutes.
Feel free to interact with Eve, and challenge her after every answer if you need more depth from her answers.
