Understanding Chargebacks and Fraud Claims on EVEN

This article will outline how chargebacks and fraud claims are managed on our platform.

Updated over a week ago

As an artist on EVEN, maintaining the integrity of your releases is crucial for building trust with your fans and ensuring smooth transactions. This article will outline how chargebacks and fraud claims are managed on our platform, the consequences of repeated fraudulent claims, and steps you can take to avoid such issues.

What Are Chargebacks and Fraud Claims?

A chargeback occurs when a customer disputes a transaction with their bank or credit card company, resulting in the reversal of the payment. Fraud claims typically arise when a customer believes their payment information was used without their authorization.

While chargebacks and fraud claims are sometimes legitimate, repeated claims can negatively impact your release and payment timelines on EVEN.

EVEN’s Policy on Fraudulent Claims

  1. Release Suspension:

    • If an artist’s release accrues more than three fraudulent claims, EVEN will temporarily put the release on hold to investigate the issue further.

  2. Payment Adjustments:

    • In such cases, Stripe payments for that release will be delayed and processed either at the end of the month (EOM) or upon completion of the investigation.

  3. Immediate Refunds for Suspected Fraud:

    • If EVEN suspects a claim to be fraudulent, we will immediately refund the customer to maintain transparency and trust in the platform.

Steps Artists Can Take to Avoid Fraudulent Claims

To minimize the risk of chargebacks and fraud claims, follow these best practices:

  1. Clear Communication:

    • Clearly outline what your fans will receive when they purchase your release (e.g., music, merchandise, exclusive content).

    • Ensure all product descriptions are accurate and up-to-date.

  1. Transparent Pricing:

    • Clearly display the total cost, including any applicable taxes or fees, before checkout.

  1. Secure Fan Interactions:

    • Encourage fans to use secure payment methods.

    • Avoid engaging in off-platform transactions that bypass EVEN’s secure payment systems.

  1. Regular Monitoring:

    • Regularly review your sales and customer interactions to spot any irregularities or unusual purchase patterns and contact us immediately.

What to Do If Your Release Is Put on Hold

If your release is placed on hold due to fraudulent claims:

  • Check Your Notifications: EVEN will notify you of the claims and provide guidance on the next steps.

  • Review Claims: Work with our support team to review the details of the disputed transactions.

  • Provide Documentation: Submit any relevant proof of transaction or delivery to support your case.
