Connect once and Exerta works across every post and ad, 24/7. Facebook connection takes about 5 minutes.
💡 Why connect your Facebook account?
Exerta can only manage what it's connected to. Without linking your account, none of the automation runs: no hiding comments, no auto-replies, no DMs.
Connect once and Exerta works across every post and ad, 24/7.
✅ Before you start
Before connecting, make sure you have:
Access with full control to your Facebook Business Manager, or access to the personal Facebook profile your pages are attached to
2FA (two-factor authentication) enabled on your Facebook account. Meta requires this for third-party connections.
💡 Not sure if 2FA is on? Check under Facebook Settings > Security and Login.
Connecting your account is the first step of three in the Exerta setup. After connecting, you will also need to:
Set up rules to tell Exerta what to do with comments. See Setting Up Your First Rules.
Set up an AI agent to generate replies and DMs. See Setting Up Your First AI Agent.
🔵 How to connect Facebook
Step 1: Choose your connection method
Method | When to use |
Business Manager (recommended) | Your pages are managed through a Facebook Business Manager |
Facebook Profile | Your pages are attached to a personal Facebook profile, not a Business Manager |
💡 If you are not sure which applies to you, start with Business Manager. If your pages do not appear after connecting, switch to Facebook Profile.
Step 2 - Connect your account
Go to exerta.ai/dashboard/onboarding
Click Connect to Meta
Complete the Meta authorisation flow using your chosen method
When prompted, select:
The fan pages you want Exerta to moderate
The ad accounts linked to those pages (this lets Exerta tie engagement data back to specific campaigns - access is read-only)
For Instagram, please see Connecting Your Instagram Account
Click Next.
And then click confirm to give Exerta access to your Facebook account
📋 Here is what Exerta requests access to and why:
• Pages: so Exerta can read and moderate comments on your posts and ads
• Ad accounts: read-only access to tie engagement data back to specific campaigns. Exerta cannot manage, modify, or spend on your ads.
• Instagram accounts: so Exerta can moderate Instagram comments and DMs. See Connecting Your Instagram Account.
Step 3 - Confirm the connection
After completing the authorisation flow, you'll be returned to Exerta and shown a confirmation screen.
⚠️ If you connected your Facebook account but they're not showing, it might just be a delay. Sometimes there's a short delay between Meta confirming the connection and Exerta pulling your pages through. Wait a few minutes and refresh before troubleshooting further. If pages still don't appear, check the FAQs below.
💡 What's next?
Connecting your account is the first step. Exerta will not start moderating until you set up rules. Without them, nothing is hidden, replied to, or sent to DMs, even if your account is fully connected. Your next step is Hiding Negative Comments.
❓ FAQs
🔍 Q: My Facebook pages are not showing in Exerta after connecting. What should I check?
A: If your pages are not showing up after connecting, it is usually caused by one of three things:
Your pages are not assigned to your Business Manager in Meta Business Suite
2FA is not enabled on your Facebook account. This is a Meta requirement and one of the most common causes of connection failures.
You just connected. Wait a few minutes and refresh. There is sometimes a short delay before Exerta pulls your pages through.
💡 If none of the above resolve it, try the Facebook Profile connection method as an alternative.
⚠️ Q: Some of my pages show a "Claim" label instead of connecting. What does that mean?
A: A "Claim" label means that page is attached to a personal Facebook profile but not yet added to your Business Manager.
Click Claim to add the page to your Business Manager, or
Switch to the Facebook Profile connection method to bypass this step entirely
📋 Q: I have a large number of fan pages. Will this cause issues?
A: If you have 500 or more fan pages, the connection process may time out.
Connect a smaller batch first (around 20 to 30 at a time)
Complete the connection, then return to add more
🔒 Q: What access does Exerta have to my ad accounts?
A: Exerta has read-only access to your ad accounts.
It can see engagement data tied to your campaigns and ad sets
It cannot manage, modify, or spend on your ads in any way
🔍 Q: Why do I need to add my ad accounts during setup?
A: Adding your ad accounts lets Exerta link engagement activity back to specific campaigns.
You get visibility into which ads are generating the most comments
You can see which campaigns may need attention
Exerta access is read-only. It cannot make changes to your ads.
⚠️ Q: I cannot move past the connection step in onboarding.
A: At least one page must be successfully connected before you can continue. The onboarding flow requires this before you can proceed.
Resolve the connection issue first using the steps above
Then return to exerta.ai/dashboard/onboarding
🔗 Q: How do I add more Facebook pages after my initial setup?
A: To add more pages or ad accounts after your initial setup:
Go to Integrations in the left-hand sidebar
Click Account
Click Add Account in the top right corner
This reopens the Meta authorization flow and lets you select additional pages or accounts. Your existing connections are not affected.
⛔️ Q: What happens if I revoke Exerta's access in Meta?
A: If you revoke Exerta's access through Meta's settings, automation will stop immediately. Comments will no longer be moderated, and no replies or DMs will be sent.
To reconnect:
Go to Integrations
Click Account
Click Add Account and complete the authorization flow again
After reconnection, Exerta will not automatically detect comments and DMs that occurred while disconnected. To apply rules to past comments:

❌ Q: What if I connected the wrong Facebook account?
A: You can fix this from the Integrations page without reconnecting everything.

Once added, click the triple-dot icon beside the wrong account and click Disable
Your existing correct connections are not affected.

Go to Engage
Click Moderation rule
Click the triple-dot icon beside the rule
Select a timeframe
Click Check affected comments
🔍 Q: My Instagram ads are not being moderated even though Facebook is connected. Why?
