Overview
This guide provides a quick overview of how to use the Extern Student Portal for your externship.
This version of the portal is primarily used for community college programs and externships such as National Geographic and The Home Depot.
You’ll use this portal to access projects, complete modules, upload work, and view meeting details throughout your externship.
Logging In
Visit platform.extern.com to log in.
Once you’re signed in, you’ll see your externship listed on the home page.
The home page displays your start date, end date, and your project modules.
Working Through Your Projects
Externships follow a sequential structure:
Onboarding → Project 1 → Project 2 → ... → Final PresentationYou must complete each project before moving on to the next.
Each module includes instructions, templates, and an upload area for submitting your work.
Accessing Meetings and Recordings
Click the hamburger menu (☰) in the upper-right corner and select “Meetings and Recordings.”
Here, you can:
View upcoming live meetings and events.
Watch recordings of past sessions if you missed a meeting.
Using the Help Center
Under the same menu, you’ll find the Help Center.
Opens a pop-up window linking to support.extern.com, where you can browse FAQs and troubleshooting guides.
It’s the fastest way to find solutions or get updates about your externship.
Accessing Career Resources
The Career Resources tab offers guidance on how to:
List your externship on your resume and LinkedIn.
Describe your position title and key responsibilities accurately.
Highlight your externship experience professionally for future opportunities.
Managing Your Account
In the My Account section, you can:
Update your personal details, including email and education info.
Review demographic information on file.
View any previous externships you’ve completed with Extern.

Note
Extern uses different portals for different programs.
If you’re enrolled in a subscription-based externship, you may use another version of the student platform. A separate tutorial video is available for that platform.
