During your externship, you may receive messages from different parts of the Extern team. To help you stay safe and informed, here’s how to know who to trust and how to handle unexpected communication.

Your Primary Point of Contact: Your Program Manager

Your Program Manager (PM) is the main person supporting you throughout your externship.
You can expect:

  • Regular emails from your PM with updates, deadlines, and meeting reminders.

  • Slack communication for project questions, quick clarifications, and general support.

If you need to ask about projects, timelines, meeting logistics, or clarifications, Slack is the best place to reach them.

Unexpected Emails From Unfamiliar Extern Staff

At times, you may see messages from individuals who appear to be part of the Extern team but whom you’ve never interacted with, such as:

  • Executives

  • Members of senior leadership

  • Staff whose roles you do not recognize

If you receive an email from someone at Extern that you don’t personally know and weren’t told to expect communication from, do not reply. It may be spam or an unauthorized attempt to contact students.

If Something Seems Suspicious

Your safety is a priority. If you encounter any communication that feels unusual—whether it’s an unexpected email, a strange request, or unclear instructions—please reach out for confirmation.

Email us immediately at our support inbox to verify whether the message is legitimate and authorized by the Extern team.

You’ll receive quick confirmation so you can move forward confidently and securely.
