Extern provides references for students who complete an externship successfully. References help confirm participation and performance for a specific employer or admissions office.

Eligibility

  • Reference letters are issued only after successful completion of an externship.

  • Extern does not provide general or open-ended reference letters.

  • We will not provide a letter until the end date listed on your cohort has passed.

What We Provide

  • A program-specific reference letter addressed to a named employer or admissions office.

  • Verification of participation and completion details for potential employers who contact us. Verification details are sent directly to the requesting parties, such as recruiters or background-check firms, to ensure authenticity.

What We Don’t Provide

  • General “to whom it may concern” letters.

  • Extern is not an employer for any student participating in an externship.

How to Request a Reference

  • Full name

  • Externship program name and dates

  • Recipient’s name, title, and organization (employer or admissions office)

  • Delivery preference (recipient email and any instructions)

  • Deadline (if any)- Specify if the request is for a reference letter or verification for a recruiter or background-check firm.

Employer Verification

Prospective employers may email larae.snoddy@extern.com to confirm participation and completion status. We will share dates, program scope, and outcome; no confidential materials are disclosed. Background-check firms and other authorized verifiers may also contact Extern for verification. This ensures that all verification requests are handled securely and efficiently.
