💡 This article is Step 6 in your onboarding journey
Woohoo! With your invoices sent, you can finally watch payments start rolling in.

🤓 What you’ll do here

  • Check payouts from in-app payments

  • Add payments done outside of Famly

🎒 Have these handy

  • Any transfers, checks, cash, or other payments you received outside of Famly

💰 1. In-app payments timeline

💡 Tip: Go back to Step 4 if you want to find out more about in-app payments.

Find out more about each step below 👇

👀 A few helpful notes:

  • 💳 Bank transfers (ACH) are typically slower than card payments. Nudge parents to pay by cards to speed up the process.

  • 🏦 The bank you use can affect when you actually see the money in your account.

  • 💡 It doesn’t matter whether parents pay manually or automatically—the timeline is the same, but paying automatically means they won't miss their invoice due date.

  • 📆 Weekends and holidays can delay each of these steps.

Step 1: Payment is made

Parents pay their invoice, either manually or automatically. No difference here— the process kicks off the same way.

👀 You can now see payments under Started in the in-app payout report

Step 2: Payment is processed

As soon as the parent pays, Stripe (our payment processor) receives the payment request. That’s when the money starts its journey—but it’s not quite in your Stripe balance yet.

Stripe needs time to process and settle the payment:

  • 💳 Card payments: Up to 2 business days

  • 🏦 ACH (bank transfers): Up to 5 business days

💡 Business days mean Monday through Friday, excluding bank holidays—so weekends don’t count here.

Step 3: Daily payout to your bank from your Stripe balance

Once the payment is settled, it lands in your Stripe balance. Famly makes sure payouts are triggered daily, so the money is on its way to your bank account as soon as it’s available.

  • If the payout goes out early in the day, it may be in your account on the same day. Otherwise, it should be posted the next business day.

  • If payout is later in the day, it is typically posted the following business day.

Step 4: Money lands in your account

This is the final stretch—and it depends on how fast your bank processes incoming payouts. Most larger banks are fairly quick, but we’ve heard from customers that smaller banks or credit unions may take a bit longer—anywhere from 1 to 7 business days.

So, when will the money actually arrive?

Here’s a rough timeline to help you set expectations:

  • 💳 For card payments: 2–5 business days after payment

  • 🏛️ For ACH (bank transfers): 2–10 business days after payment

In-app payment payout

👉 Where: Finance menu - Reports > In-app payment payouts

The In-app payment payout report is where you can keep track of all payouts, or groupings of payments made through Famly.

☝️Note: Bulk payouts will appear as "Famly" on your bank statement. You can also customize this with a custom description, instructions here.

At the top of the report, you'll see three key sections:

  1. Started: Auto payment is completed or parent has clicked to pay

  2. Completed: The payment has arrived in our Stripe account

  3. In payout: Stripe paid out the money to your bank and the amount will show up here until it arrives to your account.

☝️Note: Your center’s bank account may hold payouts in processing for longer; consult with your bank if you are not seeing next-day payouts, as bank timelines may vary. Adjustments reconciled in future payouts will also appear here.

💵 2. Log payments done outside of Famly

👉 Where: Finance menu - Payments or Child profile - Billing tab

On the Payments page simply click Add payment button in the top right corner.

  • Enter the correct details in the pop-up and finish by clicking Add

  • The payment is now logged on the bill payer's account, which will lower the outstanding balance for that bill payer.

You can do the same by going on the billing tab of a child profile and clicking Add in the Payer section.

For bulk entries: You can import multiple payments at once using a CSV file.

Learn how to do that here.
