The Journey tab
The Journey tab is where all assessments and observations made for a child will appear, in chronological order.
Making Observations
Observations are used to record development, interest, experiences, and achievement, and create an overall picture of the children in your care. To create an observation:
Log in to the app and go to the child's Journey tab, on their Profile
In the top right, click New
A drop-down menu will open, click Observation
You have space to write your observation and the option to upload a photo, video, or document.
Making Assessments
Assessment is ongoing through your observations of the children in your care, however, you can also record summative assessments in Famly, to create a general snapshot of a child's current development. To make an assessment:
Log in to the app and go to the child's Journey tab, on their Profile
In the top right, click New
A drop-down menu will open, click Assessment
Downloading a Child's Journey
When children leave your center, parents can still access their child's profile and photos, as long as their role in the app has not been revoked. This means you do not need to download or print anything out, but sometimes parents like to keep a file of their child's journey. Parents can download this themselves on their child's Journey tab, but if you have toggled this off for them and parents request a copy:
Head to their child's profile and click on Journey
Next, click on Print and select Print all
Enter the date range you'd like to download and click on Print
Your browser will show you your print preferences where you can enter a Destination for your file. Choose Save as PDF
Click on Save and the file will be saved to your downloads. Now, you can attach it as a file in an email to that parent
Sometimes, a child's journey may have too many entries to print or download all in one go. In these cases, we recommend using the date picker to split the journey up into smaller sections.
💡 Keep in mind, that you can only print or download a child's learning journey from a computer or laptop. Tablets and smartphones do not have this functionality.
