A Multi-BAP (Bundle As a Product) is a bundle type in Fast Bundle where the bundle appears as a virtual or “dummy” product in Shopify. This product serves only as a placeholder for the bundle and is not actually purchased by the customer.
When a customer adds a Multi-BAP to the cart, the individual products within the bundle are what get purchased, not the bundle product itself.
How It Appears in Shopify
In your Shopify admin > Products tab, you’ll see the Multi-BAP listed like a regular product, but with some key differences:
The product will display the message: “Bundle with inventory not tracked.”
This is expected behavior because the Multi-BAP product is a virtual product, and its inventory is not tracked.
Instead, Fast Bundle manages and updates the inventory of each individual product included in the bundle.
Since Fast Bundle tracks the inventory of the individual items included in the bundle, the “Track quantity” option for the bundle as a product must remain unchecked in Shopify.
Additionally, the bundle product will have its own SKU (as required by Shopify), but because it’s a virtual product, this SKU will not appear in orders.
When you have this bundle type, you may notice the following text in the Shopify admin panel > Products tab > Bundle as a product settings (the product automatically created by the Fast Bundle app)
With a contribution to Shopify, we have developed a feature to ensure that every newly created multi BAP with the mentioned setting is correctly added to the cart with the right items and variants, preventing any incorrect additions. (For more information about this issue, see this article.) While Shopify may still display an error message as it adapts to this release, rest assured, you can safely disregard it. This update aims to prevent any mishaps during the add-to-cart process.
How Is Multi BAP Displayed?
The main difference between the three BAP types lies in how the bundle is presented in the cart, checkout, and order details.
To set a bundle to display as a Multi BAP, follow one of these steps:
While creating a new bundle:
In the “How to present the bundle in cart, checkout, and order” section, select
“As its included products (Multi BAP)”.For an existing bundle:
Go to the Fast Bundle app > Bundles tab > click on the bundle you want to edit.
Then, scroll to the “How to present the bundle in cart, checkout, and order” section and select “As its included products (Multi BAP)”.
⚠️ Important Note:
When switching a Multi BAP to Single BAP, all previous product information, such as description, media, metafields, etc., will be lost.
We highly recommend backing up this information before making the change.Unlike Single BAPs, Multi BAPs are not subject to Shopify’s 100-variant limit per product, since the bundle itself is a virtual product and does not contain real variants.
This makes Multi BAP an ideal choice when bundling a large number of variant combinations.
Adding to the cart:
Let's take the "Choose Your Mug" as an example, add it to the cart, and see how it appears in the cart, checkout, and orders:
Once the bundle is added to the cart, each product will appear as a separate line item:
Cart Drawer:
Cart Page:
Checkout:
Order:
In the order details, the SKUs of the included items will be displayed individually:
Inventory Handling
The inventory of the individual items inside the bundle will also decrease when the order is paid or authorized.
Continuing with the example above, the inventory of the following products will each be reduced by 1:
Golden Retriever / Ceramic / 500 ml
White / Stainless steel / 500 ml
Discount Application:
A discount code is applied to the Multi-BAP bundle to apply the bundle discount to the items within it. The key point to note is that this bundle discount is treated as a product discount in Shopify.
According to Shopify’s policy, two product discounts cannot be applied together; only the one with the higher value will take effect.
If you want to allow customers to use a discount code alongside the bundle discount, you’ll need to:
Set up your discount code as an order discount
Make sure it’s configured to combine with product discounts
Navigate to the Fast Bundle app > Settings tab > Scroll down to Discount sections > Select "Allow bundles' discount codes to be combined with other product discount codes which are combinable"

The correct way to add the Multi-BAP to the cart
What does it mean for the Multi BAP to be correctly added to the cart? Is there a wrong way to add the Multi BAP?
The answer is yes! The Multi BAP will only be added to the cart correctly when the customer uses the “Add to Cart” button on the bundle as a product page or via the bundle widget on the included product’s page.
In this setup, the dummy product (the Multi BAP) itself is not added to the cart. Instead, the individual products included in the bundle are added as separate line items, ensuring the bundle is processed correctly.
Invalid BAP
If the Multi-BAP is added through any other way (other add-to-cart buttons that might appear on collection pages suggested products on the cart page or cart drawer, featured products on the homepage, draft orders with the dummy product, etc.) the dummy product will be added and the bundle will be added incorrectly. This is what we call an Invalid BAP. When this dummy product is added, the inventory will not pull correctly from the individual products, and the variants of the individual products will also not appear on the order.
Invalid BAP example
Let's take the "Black Friday Set" bundle as an example.
This is how the bundle as a product (BAP) looks on its product page.
And it's supposed to get added to the cart when you click on the Add to Cart button, as shown in the image below (separate items):
But sometimes, the bundle as a product itself gets added to the cart incorrectly, as illustrated:
The Invalid BAP problem goes beyond how items are displayed in the cart; it can affect how things are reflected in the order. For example, if you have product variants, you'd want those variants to be correctly accounted for. So this matter needs to be addressed.
Solutions
Set your Multi-BAP to a Single-BAP
To switch your bundle type to Single BAp, please navigate to the Fast Bundle app > Bundles tab > click on the bundle you want to edit.
Then, scroll to the “How to present the bundle in cart, checkout, and order” section and select “As a single product (Single BAP)”. By this change, the product on Shopify will no longer be a dummy product and can be added to the cart like any other shopify product.
Note that changing the Multi-BAP to a Single-BAP may not always be possible. The Single-BAP's total variants should not exceed Shopify's variant limit for a single product. Read more
Remove the buttons
Remove the additional add-to-cart buttons on your theme that are causing the dummy product to get added to the cart. You can also contact our support team to remove them for you.
Invalid BAP Modal
If the BAP is mistakenly added to the cart as a single product, a "Modal Popup" can be shown to the user right away. The appearance of the modal will resemble the image below.
The products that are included in the BAP will be displayed in this modal. If there are variants available, the user can select them. To replace the bundle product with the included products, the user needs to click on the "Fix Your Cart" button.
Please contact us if you want us to activate "Modal Popup" for your shop.
Invalid BAP Feature:
If a customer clicks on any Add to Cart button other than the one on the bundle's widget or the bundle as a product page (such as the Add to Cart button on a collection page), the bundle will not be added to the cart correctly.
When this feature is enabled, the customer will be redirected to the bundle as a product page, where they can select the necessary variants and use the Add to Cart button provided on that page to add the bundle correctly.
This ensures the bundle is always added with the right items and variants included in the cart.
Please contact us if you want us to activate "Invalid BAP Feature" for your shop.
