🐰Can I change the SKU of my bundle as a product?

Can I change the SKU of the bundle? Explaining how to change the SKU in the Single-BAP and avoid changing it in the Multi-BAP

Updated over 2 weeks ago

The answer to this question depends on the type of Bundle as A Product (BAP) you have created.

When creating a Bundle as A Product (BAP), there are three options, to add them as a single product to the cart (Single BAP), to add them as individual products in separate lines (Multi BAP), or to add them as expanded line items connected to the product (Cart Transform).

To read more about the differences and features of each type, please refer to this document:

Single-BAP:

When you set the Bundle as Product setting to "As a single product", the Bundle as Product becomes a Single BAP.

As you may know, SKUs are defined for each variant. The variants of these products (Single BAPs) are the set of all the possible combinations of the variants of the included products.

When the Single BAP is created, we assign a random SKU to each variant of the BAP. You can change these SKUs to what you want them to be and have those new SKUs appear on the order.

How to change the SKU?

Click on each variant, and change the SKU for each variant to anything you like.

Will the SKU be updated after I make changes to it?

Yes, once you enter a new SKU, it will be updated. However, if you're customizing the SKU for a Single BAP bundle or want to ensure the SKU remains unchanged, please finalize all your bundle settings first. Any further changes made to the bundle settings in the Fast Bundle app can either generate a new SKU or override the custom SKU you’ve previously set.

Multi-BAP and Cart Transform:

When you set up the bundle to be added to the cart as included products within the bundle, we refer to this as a Multi-BAP.
On the other hand, when you choose to add the bundle as expanded line items linked to the main product, it’s called a Cart Transform.

In this case, Fast Bundle makes a default SKU for it in the Shopify panel.

Don't change the dummy product's SKU

The Multi BAP and Cart Transform are not a real product, in the sense that it does not have any variants, and their inventory is not tracked. The reason is that this is just a dummy product, and it isn't intended to ever be added to the cart, bought, or appear on the order. Instead, if added correctly through the ATC button on the product page of the BAP, the included products will be added to the cart, and therefore, their SKUs should appear on the order.

If you change the dummy product's SKU, it will bounce back after a while.

The SKU of the Multi-BAP and Cart Transform should never show up on the order.

If your BAP is a Multi BAP or Cart Transform, and you do see a random SKU on the order, this means that the BAP has been added incorrectly, and you have a problem. We call this an Invalid BAP, which means that the dummy product has been added to the cart instead of the individual products.
