A Cart Transform BAP (Bundle As a Product) is a bundle type in Fast Bundle that works similarly to a Multi BAP but with an enhanced customer experience. Shopify has provided the Cart Transform infrastructure, which allows us to offer this bundle type in Fast Bundle. In this setup, the bundle appears as a single line item in the cart, showing the bundleâs name and discounted price. Then, at checkout, the bundle is automatically split into its included products, which are displayed in a dropdown under the bundle name. This approach keeps the cart view clean and simple, while still showing customers exactly whatâs included in the bundle during checkout.
The bundle as a product in Cart Transform BAP is still a dummy product, just like in Multi BAP. It serves only as a placeholder for the bundle and is not actually purchased by the customer.
How It Appears in Shopify
In your Shopify admin > Products tab, youâll see the Cart Transform BAP is listed like a regular product, but with some key differences:
The product will display the message: âBundle with inventory not tracked.â
This is expected behavior because the Cart Transform BAP product is a virtual product, and its inventory is not tracked.
Instead, Fast Bundle manages and updates the inventory of each individual product included in the bundle.
Since Fast Bundle tracks the inventory of the individual items included in the bundle, the âTrack quantityâ option for the bundle as a product must remain unchecked in Shopify.
Additionally, the bundle product will have its own SKU (as required by Shopify), but because itâs a virtual product, this SKU will not appear in orders.
When you have this bundle type, you may notice the following text, "The app used to create this product is no longer available", in the Shopify admin panel > Products tab > Bundle as a product settings (the product automatically created by the Fast Bundle app)
With a contribution to Shopify, we have developed a feature to ensure that every newly created Cart Transform BAP with the mentioned setting is correctly added to the cart with the right items and variants, preventing any incorrect additions. (For more information about this issue, see this article.) This update aims to prevent any mishaps during the add-to-cart process. While Shopify may still display an error message as it adapts to this release, rest assured, you can safely disregard it.
How Is Cart Transform BAP Displayed?
The main difference between the three BAP types lies in how the bundle is presented in the cart, checkout, and order details.
To set a bundle to display as a Cart Transform BAP, follow one of these steps:
While creating a new bundle:
In the âHow to present the bundle in cart, checkout, and orderâ section, select
ââAs expanded line items connected to the product (Cart Transform)â.For an existing bundle:
Go to the Fast Bundle app > Bundles tab > click on the bundle you want to edit.
Then, scroll to the âHow to present the bundle in cart, checkout, and orderâ section and select âAs expanded line items connected to the product (Cart Transform)â.
â ď¸ Important Note:
When switching a Cart Transform BAP to Single BAP, all previous product information, such as description, media, metafields, etc., will be lost.
We highly recommend backing up this information before making the change.Unlike Single BAPs, Cart Transform BAPs are not subject to Shopifyâs 100-variant limit per product, since the bundle itself is a virtual product and does not contain real variants.
This makes Cart Transform an ideal choice when bundling a large number of variant combinations.
Adding to the cart:
Let's take the "Choose Your Jewelry" as an example, add it to the cart, and see how it appears in the cart, checkout, and orders:
Once the bundle is added to the cart, it appears as a single item on the cart page. However, at checkout, the bundle is displayed along with its included products, allowing customers to see the full breakdown of whatâs inside the bundle.
Cart Drawer:
Some cart drawer apps support Cart Transform and display the bundle broken down into its included products within the cart drawer view.
Cart Page:
Checkout:
Order:
When a Cart Transform BAP is purchased, items in the bundle are shown in separate line items. The total discount is distributed among the included items, and each item will display a line under the SKU of each product indicating "Part of: bundle's name" so you can recognize which bundle each item belongs to. There are no discount labels or tags on the line items, but the bundled products are clearly associated with the bundle in the order summary. This setup is particularly useful for packing and order management, as it keeps the order organized while still showing the bundle's contents.
Inventory Handling
The inventory of the individual items inside the bundle will also decrease when the order is paid or authorized.
Continuing with the example above, the inventory of the following products will each be reduced by 1:
Hoop Earrings / Silver
Band Ring / Silver
Discount Application
In Cart Transform BAP type, the total price of the items in the bundle becomes the Compare at a price, and the discount you enter in the bundle settings becomes the Final price.
Therefore, in a Cart Transform BAP bundle, no discount codes or tags are used. However, any available discount codes can still be applied to this bundle type.
â ď¸ Important note:
Cart Transform BAPs are added to the cart as a single line item, so customers cannot remove individual items from the bundle, and the bundle must be purchased in full, exactly as it is configured.
The correct way to add the Cart Transform BAP to the cart
What does it mean for the Cart Transform BAP to be correctly added to the cart? Is there a wrong way to add the Cart Transform BAP?
The answer is yes! The Cart Transform BAP will only be added to the cart correctly when the customer uses the âAdd to Cartâ button on the bundle as a product page or via the bundle widget on the included productâs page.
In this setup, the dummy product (the Cart Transform BAP) itself is not added to the cart. Instead, the individual products included in the bundle are added as separate line items, ensuring the bundle is processed correctly.
â
Invalid BAP
If the Cart Transform BAP is added through any other way (other add-to-cart buttons that might appear on collection pages suggested products on the cart page or cart drawer, featured products on the homepage, draft orders with the dummy product, etc.) the dummy product will be added and the bundle will be added incorrectly. This is what we call an Invalid BAP. When this dummy product is added, the inventory will not pull correctly from the individual products, and the variants of the individual products will also not appear on the order.
Invalid BAP example
Let's take the "Choose Your Jewelry" bundle as an example.
This is how the bundle as a product (BAP) looks on its product page.
Hereâs how it should appear: the bundle should be listed as a single product, with a dropdown showing all the included items beneath it.
Sometimes, the bundle as a product may be added to the cart incorrectly. When this happens with a Cart Transform BAP, the issue typically becomes noticeable only at the checkout page.
If the bundle is added incorrectly, there will be no dropdown at checkout showing the included items of the bundle; only the bundle as a product itself will appear.
The Invalid BAP problem goes beyond how items are displayed in the cart; it can affect how things are reflected in the order. For example, if you have product variants, you'd want those variants to be correctly accounted for. So this matter needs to be addressed.
Solutions
Set your Cart Transform BAP to a Single-BAP
If your bundle is a basic bundle, you change this setting by navigating to the Fast Bundle app > Bundles tab > clicking on the bundle you want to edit.
Then, scroll to the âHow to present the bundle in cart, checkout, and orderâ section and select âAs a single product (Single BAP)â. By this change, the product on Shopify will no longer be a dummy product and can be added to the cart like any other shopify product.
Note that changing the Cart Transform BAP to a Single-BAP may not always be possible. The Single-BAP's total variants should not exceed Shopify's variant limit for a single product. Read more
Remove the buttons
Remove the additional add-to-cart buttons on your theme that are causing the dummy product to get added to the cart. You can also contact our support team to remove them for you.
Invalid BAP Modal
If the BAP is mistakenly added to the cart as a single product, a "Modal Popup" can be shown to the user right away. The appearance of the modal will resemble the image below.
The products that are included in the BAP will be displayed in this modal. If there are variants available, the user can select them. To replace the bundle product with the included products, the user needs to click on the "Fix Your Cart" button.
Please contact us if you want us to activate "Modal Popup" for your shop.
Invalid BAP Feature:
If a customer clicks on any Add to Cart button other than the one on the bundle's widget or the bundle as a product page (such as the Add to Cart button on a collection page), the bundle will not be added to the cart correctly.
When this feature is enabled, the customer will be redirected to the bundle as a product page, where they can select the necessary variants and use the Add to Cart button provided on that page to add the bundle correctly.
This ensures the bundle is always added with the right items and variants included in the cart.
