What is an Unused Ticket?

Unused tickets are a credit with an airline as a result of changing or cancelling a previous trip which can be used toward purchasing a new ticket for future travel with the same airline.

When Can I Use an Unused Ticket?

Unused tickets must be redeemed before booking a new ticket, they can not be applied to a trip already booked. You can generally apply them to any future trip with the same airline, however there may be additional restrictions or change fees depending on the fares and routing selected, so you must contact your dedicated travel consultant to apply them.

It's worth noting that not all airlines support unused tickets and not all fares are eligible to be held in credit.

How to Apply Unused Tickets to your booking?/How to Apply Unused Tickets at Checkout?

If you have unused tickets from the airline you are booking your flight with, Melon will offer you an option to apply your unused ticket credits in the Payment Details section. (By selecting View Unused Tickets you can view all unused tickets at any time).

To apply your unused ticket, simply:

  1. Scroll down to the Payment Details section on the Checkout page.

  2. Turn ON the Apply unused ticket credits to this flight option to view your available unused tickets.

  3. If you have more than one unused ticket from the same airline, you can choose only one to redeem for one flight.

Multiple unused tickets can be redeemed if you have more than one flight with the same airline or flights with multiple airlines on your trip. But only one unused ticket can be used per flight at all times.

  4. Once you choose an unused ticket, you will see an update in the Booking Overview section of the Checkout page. Select Learn more to view the unused ticket process in detail or continue with the Checkout.

  5. Upon checkout, a request will be sent to our Travel Consultant to review and book using your credits.

  6. Once you checkout, you can not undo your action.

Applying Unused Tickets to Flights that Require Approval

  1. Simply choose your unused tickets in the Payment Details section on the checkout page in the same way as explained above.

  2. Unused tickets are sent for review to the Travel Consultant after a flight is approved. In the Booking Overview section, you can select Learn more to view the unused ticket process in detail or continue with the request for approval.

Why Can't I View My Unused Tickets?

Unused ticket credits are most common with North American-based airlines, so Melon users based outside of the USA and Canada may not see this Unused Ticket section in their account. If you think you might have a credit with an airline, please contact your dedicated travel manager to confirm.
