Who are Fernwayer's Experience Makers?

People with a distinct depth of human connection to a place.

Experience Makers are the heart of the model. That is who Fernwayer is built around.

They are not just guides.

They are people with real knowledge, a real point of view, and a deep connection to place.

They come from every walk of life — photographers, fishermen, artisans, historians, chefs, architects, naturalists, journalists, farmers, winemakers, designers, sportspeople, educators, authors, filmmakers, dancers, and more. Some are solo practitioners. Some are small teams of two or three.

What unites them is the depth of what they bring - and a distinct connection to the place they call home — through long-term roots, cultural grounding, subject-matter expertise, or unique access.

The depth of a Fernwayer Experience Maker shows up in several ways — often in combination.

  • Rare access — to places, moments, communities, and rituals that aren't available on the mass market. This is the exclusivity that makes an Experience truly memorable.

  • Long-term roots — the kind of connection to a place that only comes from living it over years or generations.

  • Cultural grounding — the ability to interpret a place through the traditions, history, and community that shape it.

  • Subject-matter expertise — real mastery in one or more fields, whether traditional, academic, artistic, culinary, or lived.

What else we look for

When we partner with an Experience Maker, we look for:

  • Real knowledge and a real point of view — mastery of a field, and a perspective only they can bring.

  • A deep connection to place — through roots, culture, or expertise.

  • Storytelling ability — the skill to share knowledge in a way that stays with travelers long after the encounter.

  • Welcomingness — a warm, hospitable approach that makes travelers feel safe, included, and valued.

  • Capacity to deliver — licensed and legally compliant where required, and able to host Experiences consistently.

How we work together

Experience Makers on Fernwayer are collaborators. We co-create every Experience with them — around their story, their knowledge, and their passions.

That collaboration takes different shapes depending on the Experience: shaping the concept and its fit within our portfolio, working together on how the day unfolds, and refining how the Experience is written up for travelers.

Fernwayer is not a distribution channel for tours you already sell elsewhere. Every Experience on our platform is developed specifically for Fernwayer travelers — distinct from what you may offer on other platforms or on your own website.

Are Experience Makers always the host?

Most Experiences are hosted directly by the Experience Maker who created and sells them on the platform.

In some cases, an Experience Maker profile is shared between two or three individuals who host jointly. In a small number of cases, a solo Experience Maker may share hosting with a vetted colleague who meets the same criteria.

These arrangements are always disclosed in the Who Is The Host section of each Experience page. Travelers always know who they will be meeting.
