Summary
Every year, on average, one of you informs us that a financial account of yours has been hacked and your money is gone.
Key Points
Use 2-factor authentication to receive a code to your phone when you log in
Enter the code to access your account
This prevents hackers from stealing money from your accounts
Within the past year Stripe requires 2-factor authentication security when creating a new account. If your Stripe account is older, follow this article to enable it.
Once you create your Stripe & QuickBooks accounts, we strongly recommend adding 2-factor authentication security to your account. This creates a two-step process when you log in:
You log in with your email address and password
The site sends you a six-digit passcode to your mobile phone, which you enter in the login page to complete the log in
This added layer of security gives an extra step to help further secure your account. The scenario is as follows:
Someone hijacks your email account
They go phishing on financial sites, enter your email address and click Forgot my password
If they get lucky the site sends an email explaining the password recovery process
That email is intercepted by the hacker
The hacker enters the new password thereby locking you out of your account and they steal your money
With 2-factor authentication, if they don't have your mobile phone, they can't log in and hijack your account.
Given the increasing number of email hacks it is pivotal for you to protect your financial accounts.
