Summary
For customers to receive a text, they must have Send Appointment reminders set to text or text and email in their location page. Only customers who have a Work Order status of Scheduled, or a status that Acts as Scheduled, will receive the text.
Key Points
There are two options available for you to send a same day text reminder to your customers:
Send a text message to customers when the technicians start their day.
Send a text message to the next customer when the prior Work Order is completed.
Go to Settings/Appointment Reminders and scroll down to the bottom of the page.
Send a message to customers when the technicians starts their day
In the Send at drop-down list, select either The time of the first appointment. Or, select A specific time and select the time you want it to go out. Enter the text you want to send to the customer in the Message box, use the Placeholders on the right, if you want.

Note there is a new Placeholder, {technicians_location}. When the customer taps that in the text message Google Maps will appear and pin drop the tech's location.
This is a sample text message the customer receives when the tech starts their day:
Notify next customer when the prior work order is completed

When the customer taps the location link, Google Maps opens and pin drops the tech's location. If necessary, zoom in to get a closer look to the location.
Note When this customer's service is Complete, the link expires, i.e., the customer can't track the tech all day long.
