How offline storage works

Using First Draft Pro without an internet connection πŸ“Ά

Updated this week

Offline storage works by saving your current project as temporary files on your computer's hard drive. This allows you to continue writing with First Draft Pro even if your internet connection is poor or nonexistent. Once your internet connection is restored, your hard drive's temporary files are automatically synced to the cloud so that your work is permanently saved.

To enable offline mode, simply click the toggle button at the bottom right corner of your screen.

A few things to note when using offline mode:

  • Because changes to your project are stored locally, we are not able to create version histories while in offline mode, and any deleted text is not recoverable if it hasn't synced to the cloud. Make sure you don't close the app or turn off your device before restoring internet connection first!

  • While the data is stored locally on your device, this happens within a location managed and sandboxed by the browser. You cannot browse, open, or modify these storage contents outside the browser. So it's stored on your hard drive, but not accessible to you via your accessible storage.
