To transfer ownership simply means to add a new co-owner to your project and then deleting either an old co-owner or yourself from the project. A single project can have multiple owners and all owners have full access to the project, ie. you cannot set permissions to limit any owner's access.

If your project is on the free Flame plan, you will not be allowed to add additional users/owners, and thus the steps of transferring ownership will be different. Please take a look at the following article: Transferring project ownership on the Flame plan.
โ€‹

Transferring ownership can be done 3 easy steps:

Skip steps 1 and 2 if you already have more than one owner for your project.

1. Invite another Owner to your project

Log into Flamelink.

On your project card, select "CMS Users" from the context menu (3 vertical dots in the screenshot below). If you are already logged into your project, you can select CMS Users in the navigation sidebar.

You will be redirected to the Manage Users screen. Click "Add User" at the top right of your screen and log into your project if you are not logged in already.
On the Add New CMS User modal, enter the Name and Email Address of the person you would like to invite to the project. The Enabled toggle will be on by default. Leave the toggle on so that the user will be enabled. The Owner toggle should also be switched on to make the user a project owner with unlimited access.

Now, click "Add User". You will see a Success notification and the new user will be in your User list.

โ€‹Note: The User type will be "Pending" until the new Owner accepts your invitation, then it will change to "Owner".

2. Accepting the invitation to collaborate on a project

The new owner will receive an invitation to the project via email. Once registered with Flamelink and logged in, they will be able to accept the invitation and set a password for the project. By clicking "Accept", both owners (inviter and invitee) will have the same level of access to the project.

3. Deleting a co-owner of a project

On your project card, select "CMS Users" from the context menu (3 vertical dots in the screenshot below). If you are already logged into your project, you can select CMS Users in the navigation sidebar.

On the Manage Users screen, in your list of users, you will see the names of the other owners with an Edit and Delete button next to their details. We will use Owner A in the screenshot below as an example. Click the "Delete" button

On the modal, confirm permanently removing the owner (Owner A). Once you've done this, the name and details of the deleted owner will no longer be visible in your User list.
Owner A will receive an email informing them of being deleted. Owner A will no longer have access to the project on Flamelink.ย

Note:

  • Transferring ownership of the Firebase project needs to be done in the Firebase console.

  • When transferring ownership to another person, remember to update the billing details if someone else will be responsible for payment or a different card will be used.
