When you import from eBay, Flippd tries to link each eBay listing to an item you already track instead of creating a duplicate. Matching runs in this order:
Already linked — once a listing has been linked to a Flippd item (by a previous import or review), that link is permanent and every future sync uses it.
SKU match — the SKU on your eBay listing is compared against your Flippd item's SKU. An exact match links the two automatically. SKUs are managed in Flippd on their own dedicated screen: Settings > SKU Settings.
Stock Number match — if the eBay SKU doesn't match a Flippd SKU, it's compared against your items' Stock Numbers (the identifier Flippd assigns to every item and prints on labels). Many sellers paste that label code into their eBay listings, so this links them automatically too.
No match — the listing goes to the review screen with AI-suggested matches based on the listing title. You decide: merge it into one of your existing items, or import it as a new item. Nothing is created behind your back.
Getting the Most Automatic Matches
On your eBay listings, fill in the SKU with the same SKU or Stock Number the item has in Flippd. You can do this in bulk from eBay Seller Hub. (Heads up: eBay calls its SKU field "Custom label" — that's eBay's name for its SKU box, unrelated to Flippd's custom fields.)
Values must match exactly (extra spaces are ignored, but
A-12andA12are different). If your eBay SKUs are used for something else (like storage bin codes), they won't match — expect those listings on the review screen the first time, with AI suggestions to speed up the merging.
Good to Know
The first import on an account with existing inventory is the big one: everything that can't be matched waits for your review. After you've merged or imported them once, the links are remembered and future syncs are automatic.
SKU and Stock Number are different things in Flippd: Stock Numbers are auto-assigned to every item, while SKUs are your own identifiers configured under Settings > SKU Settings. The import matches on both.
Merging never overwrites your Flippd-only data — cost of goods, storage location, barcode, and source stay exactly as you entered them. See What does eBay sync update?
