Supported file types & best practices

What you can send to Fluent and how to get the cleanest extraction.

Supported file types

Fluent accepts most common document and image formats, regardless of how the file arrives (email, WhatsApp, upload):

  • Documents: PDF, DOC, DOCX, ODT, RTF, TXT, Markdown

  • Spreadsheets: XLS, XLSX, ODS, CSV, TSV

  • Presentations: PPT, PPTX, ODP

  • Images: JPG, JPEG, PNG, WEBP

  • Data & config: XML, JSON, YAML, TOML, HTML

  • Audio: MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG, AMR, WEBM

  • Archives: ZIP (auto-extracted, including nested zips)

Best practices for clean extraction

  • Send clear PDFs whenever possible. A searchable PDF beats a scan, and a scan beats a photo.

  • Include all pages. A missing page often means a missing line item.

  • Avoid password-protected files. Fluent can't open them.

  • For photos: hold steady, avoid shadows, keep the document flat. Dark or blurry photos reduce extraction accuracy.

  • Don't flatten tables into images. A PDF with real text tables extracts more accurately than a screenshot of the same PDF.

Not sure if a format is supported? Send it anyway — Fluent will either process it or let you know. If you use something specialized that isn't on the list, contact support@fluenterp.com.
