Do I need to use a specific email app with Forage Mail?
No, Forage connects to your Gmail account and works seamlessly with any mail app that you use to view emails in that account. You can continue using your preferred email app while enjoying Forage's inbox organization and your Daily Summary email.
Where does Forage Mail manage my emails?
Forage manages your email directly inside your favorite mail app. It connects to your email account and works in the background to filter emails as they arrive. You can continue checking your email in Gmail, Apple Mail, Superhuman, Spark, or wherever else you check email.
How does Forage Mail categorize my emails?
Forage uses AI to sort emails into preset categories. When it determines which category an email should be in, it will apply an Auto Label to the email. It learns your preferences based on feedback you provide. You can also set custom rules to decide how specific senders are handled.
What happens to my emails after Forage Mail auto labels them?
A label is added to every email that Forage categorizes. Based on your rules, the email will then be left in your inbox or moved to a folder. All emails processed by Forage remain searchable from any email app.
Please note: If you set any category to "Move to trash", those emails will be deleted after 30 days when Gmail empties your trash.
Why are emails with labels still showing up in my inbox?
This can happen if you've set that Auto Label to "Keep in Inbox" in your Preferences. It can also happen if you have created a custom rule that keeps that sender in your inbox.
Can I change the delivery time for my daily summary emails?
Yes, you can choose when your daily summary emails are delivered in the Preferences screen.
Can I change how many daily summary emails I receive each day?
Yes, you can choose between Once Daily or Twice Daily summary emails. You can also choose when you'd like these emails to be delivered. You can adjust both of these settings on the Preferences screen.
Can I adjust Forage’s default email categories to fit my needs?
Yes! Forage comes with default email categories like Calendar, Events, Transactions, Updates, Promotions, Newsletters, etc. These are designed to keep your inbox organized.
You have full control over how Forage treats these categories. Whether you want emails in these categories delivered directly to your inbox, summarized in your daily summary email, or automatically archived to reduce clutter, Forage lets you customize the experience to fit your needs.
You can customize Forage to fit your needs in the Preferences screen.
Can I create custom rules for specific senders?
Yes, you can create custom rules for specific senders! In the Preferences screen, you'll find a section titled "Custom Rules". Click the “+” button in that section to create your own rule.
How can I report incorrect email categorizations?
If an email is categorized incorrectly, you can let Forage know in a few ways:
In the Home screen, click the menu on the email, and select "Change label".
When viewing the full email in Forage, click the menu on the top right, or the "Modify" button, then select "Change label".
When viewing the email in your Daily Summary, click the "Modify" button on any newsletter, then select "Change label". If the email is not a newsletter, click it to view the full email, and then follow option 2 in this list.
How do "Keep in inbox", "Summarize", "Auto Archive", and "Move to Trash" work?
In the Preferences tab of the app, you will find three different treatments that can be applied to your emails.
Keep in inbox: Emails are labeled and stay in your inbox where you can see them
Summarize: Emails are labeled, moved out of your inbox, and included in your daily summary email
Auto Archive: Emails are labeled and moved out of your inbox
Move to Trash: Emails are moved immediately to the trash
How does the unsubscribe feature work?
When you unsubscribe from a sender, Forage will follow the unsubscribe link in the email and execute the unsubscribe for it.
It is common for senders to not respect your unsubscribe request, so we also add a Custom Rule to your Preferences that moves any future emails from that sender directly to trash.
In some cases where the sender doesn't have an unsubscribe link, Forage will send an email to that sender to request that your email be unsubscribed from their mailing list.
When you unsubscribe from a sender, you will also have the option to Archive All emails from them that may still be hanging around in your inbox.
What is Delayed Archive?
Delayed Archive helps keep your inbox tidy by automatically archiving emails in your inbox after a set period. This is useful if you want a certain sender or type of email to show up in your inbox, but you don't want those emails to pile up over time.
You can set the Delayed Archive duration for any category of emails, or any specific sender (via Custom Rules). You have the option to archive emails after 24 hours, 3 days, or 1 week from the time they arrived.
Personal conversations are excluded and will not be touched by Delayed Archive.
Pro-tip: If there are emails you would like to keep in your inbox indefinitely, simply star them in Gmail and Delayed Archive will ignore them.
Will Forage categorize an email that I send to myself?
No, Forage will not categorize personal emails that you send to yourself.
Can Forage Mail delete my emails?
By default Forage does not delete your emails. Emails that are included in your daily summary are archived and moved to a label/folder (not deleted). Archived emails are still searchable in Gmail and visible in folders.
However, there are two scenarios where emails can be deleted:
If you set any auto label or custom rule to "Move to trash".
If you select "Move to trash" on any specific email.
The Move to trash option does not delete emails immediately. It puts the emails in Gmail's trash folder, where it will be deleted automatically by Gmail after 30 days.
