Update to Articles (2023):
Although many elements of Articles are staying the same, there are several exciting changes that come along with this update, we hope you enjoy the new experience!

Updated Article Tools:

SOAR/SEO Scorecard Tool

The SEO Tool now lives under the Action Bar. You are able to see your score status via the color from within the Action Bar. Click the button to open the SOAR Tool and see what suggestions you still need to complete.

You are now able to see the Search Phrase for your content from within the SOAR Tool to allow you to better refer to this phrase throughout your content.

Asset Selector

The asset selector may look a little different, however there are no functionality changes here. There has not been any changes to searching and results.

There are two different views of the Asset Selector – slat view and tile view, which you can change at the top of the modal.

*Note that we have removed the Giphy integration.

Publishing & Action Bar

Set your slug for your content at the bottom of the Article. You now only need to change this in a single place. Please utilize the magic wand feature when creating your slugs as this will pull in the correct information into the URL.

When you select publish in the new Action Bar you will be prompted with the same options you are used to. You can publish your content in that moment, or schedule it to go live later. This is also how you re-publish content after making updates.

You will find the Unpublish and View Live button hidden away in the action bar.

Publish History & Compare Revisions

Publish History & Compare Revisions have moved! Instead of scrolling to the bottom of articles, you can now access publish history and revisions from the action bar.

Setting Primary Channels

To make a selected channel the primary channel, simply select the flag icon to the left. It will then just to the first position in the list and become the primary channel.

To build an article, select Article from the Create menu at the top right corner of Copilot.
Required fields: Hed, body, channel, social title, seo title and description, content source, promo image

1. Enter a headline.

2. Enter a dek.

3. Save the article! Copilot currently doesn’t have an autosave feature, so it’s important to save your work often.

Write the article.

1. Type or paste the copy into the body field.

2. Bold, italicize, and make other formatting changes. Click the formatting buttons by highlighting text. If you're using the collaborative editor, see our how-to guide here. If you prefer to work in markdown, here is a complete guide to markdown and keyboard shortcuts. In the markdown editor (shown below), you can preview your text formatting by toggling to Preview. Then toggle back to Markdown to continue editing.

Using the Asset Finder:

1. Insert your cursor in the body and hit return to create a new line.

2. Click the + symbol. You'll see the icons for the Copilot asset finder, external embeds (iframe, social, video), upload to body, callouts (which vary by brand), horizontal rules, and section breaks.

  • Click the asset finder button to embed an internal asset, like photos, galleries, CNÉ videos, etc.

  • Click the upload button to upload a new asset directly to the body.

  • Click to embed button to embed an external asset, like a youtube video or a social media post.

3. Select the asset and hit submit. Once the asset is in the body, add a caption or select view asset to add additional details. Write a contextual one, autogenerate one from an internal asset's details page, or leave the caption blank.

4. You will see a visual representation of the asset in the body. To see how it will look on the site, save and click the full-page preview button on the top right.

Homepage & Recirculation: Add the promo fields, promo image, and story image.

1. Add the site headline and dek. This isn't mandatory, but the site headline and dek appears with the site image in any promotional areas of the site, i.e. any curated spots on the homepage and channel pages, in search rivers, etc. It can be different than the article headline and dek if you'd like, or autofilled from the article headline and dek.

2. Add the site image. Browse the asset finder or upload an image or GIF from your computer. The site image is your thumbnail image—it shows up on all promotional areas of the site (homepage, channel, subchannel, etc.) with the promo hed and dek.

3. Add the site image. Browse the asset finder or upload an image or GIF from your computer. The story image will live at the top of your article, and allows you the flexibility of flipping through template types. The way this image displays will vary based on your site design and template. You can also copy the promo image to the story image using the magic wand button on the story image field.

When an image is already selected, you can click on the caret to delete, replace, or copy from promo image as well.

4. Select web or magazine for the content source. For magazine pieces, you can specify the issue date.

5. Select the channel and subchannel for your piece. **If your brand uses categories, you will select the channel(s), subchannel(s), and tags further down using the category picker.**

6. Skip rubric. The rubric will typically pull in the channel name on the front-end. Check with your product manager if you are unsure.

Add contributors.

1. Start typing the contributor name. Choose a pre-published contributor to populate this field.

2. If the name doesn't appear, you need to create a new contributor. Contributors must be published in order to populate.

Add social and SEO copy.

  1. Add the social title and description. These will be pulled for your social media channels. You can autogenerate them from the hed and dek or add your own.

2. Add the optional social image. If none is selected, the promo image will be pulled.

3. Add the SEO title and description. This will appear in Google and other search engines. You can autofill them from the hed and dek or add your own.

4. Optimize the article for search (optional). Our internal SEO scorecard feature can help you optimize your article for search. Here's how to use it.

Add taxonomy.

1. Start to type a tag. Previously created tags will appear in the dropdown when you start to type.

2. Select one or continue typing to create a new tag. You can also autogenerate tags (which will pull from the body content) by clicking the magic wand icon next to the tags field.

3. **If you are using categories to classify your content, you will be using the category picker to add channels, subchannels, and tags to your piece. The order matters here. Whichever is chosen first is the primary channel/subchannel, and will appear on the article page with the hed and dek. All other channels/subchannels chosen won't appear on the article but will control the other channels/subchannels that the story will appear in. For tags, you can add as many as you'd like.

Add related content: You can select Related Video or Related Story, hit the "add content" button to choose your asset.

Note: When adding related content, this removes the recommendation service content that appears at the bottom of any article.

1. Click on the magnifying glass and search the asset finder for related content. This module is not used by all brands, so check with your product manager if you are unsure.

Preview the article.

1. Save and then click the preview button to open the webpage preview in a new window.

2. View different layouts by selecting from the template dropdown. The page will reload with a preview of the template you've selected.

Publish the article.

1. Click the publish button. This will open the publish modal.

2. Modify the date and time if you wish to schedule the piece, or leave it as is for current publish time.

3. Autogenerate the slug or create your own.

4. Choose a template from the dropdown (if you have the option for more than one). Most brands have default templates, which will be automatically selected with each publish.

5. You can deselect the 'include in search' option if you do not want your piece to show up on a river or in search. Use with caution, however, as this will also remove it from site maps, RSS feeds, and anything else powered by search.

6. Publish the piece. After you click publish in the publish modal, you'll see the status change from draft to scheduled or published in the top right corner of your piece.
