Driving an EarthRover with WiFi vs 4G

Updated this week

Your EarthRover supports connecting through either 4G (SIM) or WiFi:

  • 4G (SIM): Recommended for the most reliable and stable experience, especially when driving outdoors or in areas without WiFi coverage.

  • WiFi: Works best if you have a strong, stable home WiFi network, and only if the bot stays within range of that WiFi connection.

What happens if I insert a SIM card while connected to WiFi?

If you insert a SIM card while your EarthRover is connected to WiFi, the bot will automatically switch to the 4G connection, as long as the SIM is active and has a valid data plan.

⚠️ If you want to keep using WiFi, remove the SIM card to prevent the bot from switching back to 4G.

How can I tell which connection my bot is using?

  • Driving on 4G: The 4G icon will appear normally with no overlay.

  • Driving on WiFi: A red circle will show over the 4G icon, indicating the bot is connected via WiFi instead of cellular.
