Exclude an Ingredient's Weight from Serving Size

How to remove an ingredient's gram weight from the printed serving size while keeping its nutrients, meal credits, and cost in the recipe.

What This Does

Some ingredients contribute mass during preparation but are removed before serving. Examples include water used for boiling pasta or rice, brine drained from canned vegetables, or oil that drips off during cooking. Excluding an ingredient's weight from the serving size keeps that ingredient's nutrients, meal credits, and cost in the recipe while removing its gram weight from the printed serving size.

How the Exclusion Affects the Recipe

  • Serving-size weight on the Nutrition Sheet and Nutrition Facts Panel no longer includes the excluded ingredient's grams.

  • Nutrients from the excluded ingredient still count toward the recipe.

  • Meal credits for the excluded ingredient still count.

  • Cost for the excluded ingredient still counts.

  • Recipe Nutrient Composition Report marks the excluded ingredient with "(weight excluded)."

Excluding an Ingredient's Weight

  1. Open the recipe in the Pantry.

  2. Open the Nutrition tab.

  3. Locate the ingredient you want to exclude.

  4. Right-click the drag handle on the left side of the ingredient row.

  5. Select Exclude weight from serving size.

  6. Publish the recipe.

Including the Weight Again

To restore the ingredient's weight in the serving size, right-click the drag handle on the same ingredient row and select the re-include option. Publish the recipe to apply the change.
