What the Public Menu Is

The public menu is the family- and community-facing view of your school's meals. It lets parents, students, and the public see what's being served day-by-day at each school, by meal program (breakfast, lunch, etc.). The menu is published by the district nutrition team and updates whenever they make changes.

No login or account is needed to view a school's public menu.

How to Access the Public Menu

  • From your district's website: Most districts link to the public menu from their school nutrition or food service page. It may also be embedded directly into the district website so you can browse menus without leaving the site.

  • From a direct link: Your district may send the public menu link in newsletters, emails, or text messages.

Navigating the Menu

Once you're on the public menu, you can:

  • Pick a school and menu: Use the school selector at the top to switch between sites in the district and select the appropriate menu if there are multiple menus for a specific site.

  • Select a date: Navigate to different weeks or months

  • Choose a meal: A button will be available for each option such as breakfast, lunch, snack, or supper. Only one meal can be viewed at a time in weekly and monthly views.

Display Options

  • View daily profile: For weekly and daily view, you can show / hide allergen and special diet details.

  • Identify allergens or special diets: Click on the chips to identify all items that include with the allergens or are tagged with the special diet labels you selected. This will highlight the offerings with an orange color.

Tap or click an item to see its full recipe details, ingredients, and nutrition information.

  • Choose week or month view: Toggle between a weekly layout and a calendar-style monthly view at the top of the page.Switching Languages.

  • Select language: The current language is shown as a small chip in the header (for example, "EN"). Tap or click the chip and choose another language from the menu to switch. Your selection applies to the recipe names, page labels, day names, and menu navigation. Languages are set by the district.

Printing and Saving the Menu

Click the printer icon on the public menu page to open the print dialog. You can save the menu as a PDF or send it to a printer. The print dialog gives you several options to fit the menu the way you want:

  • Display: Click the chips to show or hide custom sections (announcements, sidebars) and the detailed information inside each meal card.

  • Settings: Choose the font size, density (how tightly items pack on the page), and color options.

  • Weeks: Choose how many weeks to print — useful when you want the whole month on one page, or a single week at a larger size.

Use the live preview in the dialog to check the layout before printing.

Questions About the Menu

If you don't see a school, menu plan, or specific day you expect, your school district's nutrition team is the right contact — they manage the menus and what's published. Gaia is the software the team uses to build and publish menus; we don't have visibility into individual district menu decisions.
