Add Items from the Child Nutrition Database (CNDB)

Written by Souha Alameddine

1. To add a new item from the Child Nutrition Database in Gaia, you can do this from the Pantry. Select "+ Add Catalog Item" in the top-right corner.

2. Click "USDA Child Nutrition Database" to access items from this specific catalog.

3. The search bar allows you to search by item name, manufacturer name / code, allergens, and more. Click on an item to view its details.

4. Once you find the needed item, click "Next" to continue to add to pantry

5. Select a "Category" then click "+ Add to Pantry"

6. Click "View in Pantry↗" to continue editing and add any additional information to this item as needed.

💡 Tip: Verify crediting after adding a CNDB item

Some items from the CNDB may not have meal pattern crediting automatically populated after import. If an item's credits appear missing or incomplete, open the item in your Pantry, click Edit, and manually enter the crediting values based on the item's FBG (Food Buying Guide) data. Without completing this step, the item will not credit correctly in meal pattern analysis or nutrition reports.
