Using Guest Mode for Events

Guest Mode allows event participants to join without creating an account. This article walks through how to enable it.

Updated this week

What is Guest Mode?

Guest Mode is a setting that allows users to join a Gatheround event without signing in. When enabled, users who aren’t logged in will see the option to Join as Guest. This creates a temporary, anonymous account that gives them access to the event only with no account creation required. This feature is best suited for low-friction access, like public or external-facing events.

What Guest Users Can and Can't Do

Guests can:

  • Join and fully participate in the event

  • View and interact with others in the session

Guests cannot:

  • Create events or groups

  • Save event history to a permanent account

  • Receive Event Summary Recap emails (since no email is tied to guest accounts)

If a guest later signs in with Google, Email, or SSO, their prior guest activity will not be connected to the new account.

How to Enable Guest Mode:

💡 Please note: Only Staff Admins have access to enable Guest Mode.

Prior to an event:

  1. Go to "My Events"

  2. Click the "..." menu button for the event you'd like to enable guest mode on

  3. Navigate to the Host Controls tab

  4. Toggle on the setting labeled "Allow Participants to Join as Guests"

During an event:

  1. After joining the event, click on the gear ⚙️ button on the upper right hand corner to open up the settings for that event

  2. Navigate to the Host Controls tab

  3. Toggle on the setting labeled "Allow Participants to Join as Guests"

That's it! Guest Mode is now enabled for your event.

Once enabled, unauthenticated users trying to join the event will be given the option to “Join as Guest.
