Adding Supplier SKUs in Genie allows you to assign each unique product variation — like specific sizes, colors, or styles — with the exact SKUs provided by the supplier. This helps keep your orders, deliveries, and inventory accurate by syncing your records with the supplier’s catalog.

Here’s how to add Supplier SKUs at the variant level in Genie:

Step 1: Navigate to the Supplier tab to make sure you’ve added suppliers to your Genie account.

If suppliers are absent, add them by selecting 'Create Supplier'. Alternatively, contact support through chat or email if you need to bulk import suppliers.

Step 2: Once you’ve got your suppliers added, go to Inventory and locate the product you want to add the SKU to.

Step 3: Now you can open the Product Profile and under Settings, choose a primary supplier. Once selected, the 'Variant Supplier Relationship' will be available to edit. This is where you will update unit costs and add SKUs..

Step 4: To add SKUs, start by selecting the supplier you want to work with. Once you've chosen the supplier, you can add SKUs directly into the designated SKU column for that supplier. Keep in mind that you can assign different SKUs based on the supplier, allowing you to tailor SKU entries to match each supplier's specific requirements or product codes.

Step 5: Save the changes. After making all the changes, click save to store them.

Note: You cannot change Shopify Unit Costs from Genie. That will have to be done from within Shopify (here’s how).

Why This Matters

Adding supplier SKUs at the variant level helps keep things running smoothly, especially when you work with multiple suppliers. It makes order processing easier by linking the correct SKUs to each variant, reducing mistakes with inventory, orders, and reports. This also gives you up-to-date information, helping you manage inventory better and improve communication with suppliers, which makes your operations faster and more reliable.

How Adding SKUs Makes Purchase Order Creation Easier

Adding SKUs makes creating purchase orders (POs) faster and more efficient in a few ways:

  1. Quick Product Selection: SKUs help you quickly find and choose the right products when making POs, saving time.

  2. Fewer Mistakes: With SKUs, it’s easier to make sure you're ordering the correct items, reducing errors and the need for corrections.

  3. Clear Communication: Using SKUs makes it easier to communicate with suppliers, since they’ll know exactly what’s being ordered.

  4. Better Stock Management: SKUs help match your POs with current stock levels, so you only order what you need.

  5. Automation: SKUs can be used in automated systems to create POs automatically, saving you time and effort.
