Overview

UoM Equivalency -- short for Unit of Measure Equivalency -- is a powerful tool in meez. Here are a couple of important points:

  • The tab exists on every ingredient, and every recipe, which means you can set a different equivalency for each ingredient & recipe

  • UoM Equivalency tab is where you can tell meez the relationship between weight, volume, and container (each).

  • A lot of the equivalencies are already set for meez system ingredients

Using the UoM Equivalency for Costing Ingredients

Often times ingredients are used differently in a recipe than how they are bought. For instance buying a bunch of bananas while in a recipe we use the banana by 1 each or maybe 6oz-wt of banana. Here is how to set up your ingredients equivalencies so meez will know how to convert them properly to get your exact costs.

Using the UoM Equivalency for Ingredients

Every ingredient in meez has a UoM Equivalency Tab. Just like in recipes, this tab allows you to define the relationship between weight, volume, and container (each) for a certain ingredient.


A lot of these equivalencies come with meez. By defining the average weight of a yellow onion, or the gram weight of a cup of brown sugar, you can change the units of measure in a recipe with ease and accuracy. In view mode, simply click the unit of measure and then choose a different unit. Press enter and see the quantity convert based on the equivalency.

Using the UoM Equivalency for Recipes

To recap, the UoM Equivalency tab is where you can tell meez the relationship between weight, volume, and container (each) for your recipes.

Let's say your recipe yields 4 quarts, but sometimes you want to prep based on portion size. You can tell meez the weight and portion quantities from your 1 quart by setting an equivalency like below. Then you can select the unit of measure in the yield, and convert it accurately to portion or weight.
