My Gmail shows a health error — what do I do?

If your Gmail account shows a health error in GetReplies, it's almost always because you connected it with your regular Gmail password instead of an App Password.

If your Gmail account shows a health error in GetReplies, the most common cause is that you connected it using your regular Gmail password. Gmail does not allow third-party apps to authenticate with your actual password — you need to use an App Password instead.

Step 1 — Enable 2-Step Verification on your Google account

App Passwords only work when 2-Step Verification (2FA) is turned on. If you haven't done this yet:

  1. Click 2-Step Verification and complete the setup.

If you see a message saying "App Passwords are not available", it means 2FA is not yet enabled on your account.

Step 2 — Generate a Gmail App Password

  1. Log into Gmail in your browser.

  2. Click your profile picture (top right) → Manage Google Account.

  3. In the search bar at the top of the Google Account page, type App passwords and click the result.

  4. In the "App name" field, type GetReplies and click Create.

  5. Google will display a 16-character password. Copy it immediately — you will not be able to see it again after closing the dialog.

Remove the spaces before pasting

Google shows the App Password in 4 groups of 4 characters with spaces (e.g. abcd efgh ijkl mnop). Paste it into a notepad first and remove all spaces so it becomes a single 16-character string before entering it into GetReplies.

Step 3 — Reconnect your Gmail in GetReplies

  1. Go to Accounts in the left menu.

  2. Delete the existing Gmail account that is showing the health error.

  3. Click Add Account → select Gmail.

  4. Enter your Gmail address and paste the App Password (not your regular password).

  5. Click Connect. The account status should turn green within a few seconds.

Using a Google Workspace (company Gmail) account?

If your Gmail is managed by your company (Google Workspace), your IT admin may have restricted App Passwords. Ask your admin to enable App Passwords for your account, or contact GetReplies support if you're unsure.
