Spear MCP connects Spear's in-app AI assistant to your HubSpot CRM through HubSpot's own hosted MCP server.
Once it's connected you can:
Ask about your CRM in plain language — "which contacts moved to Sales Qualified this month?", "show me my HubSpot contacts by lifecycle stage" — and get an answer from your live HubSpot data.
Import contacts and companies into a Spear list from a guided chat, filtering by lifecycle stage, owner or created date before anything is added.
The assistant works only against your own HubSpot records, and only when you ask it to. Spear keeps no copy of those records, and this app does not source or import prospect data into HubSpot.
This is not the Spear + HubSpot integration
They are separate apps and you can use either or both — you'll actually see "HubSpot" listed in two different places in Spear:
The standard Spear + HubSpot integration (export prospects, exclude companies) lives in Settings → Integrations.
This HubSpot MCP connection — the one this article covers — lives under your agent → Tools.
| Spear + HubSpot | Spear MCP |
What it's for | Exporting engaged prospects into HubSpot, syncing funnel status, reading exclusion rules | Letting the Spear assistant work against your HubSpot data |
Direction | Spear writes engaged prospects into HubSpot | The assistant queries HubSpot live, when you ask |
Data stored | Mapped fields are synced | Nothing is copied |
Before you start
You are an organization admin in Spear.
Your organization is on an active paid plan (Starter, Growth or Enterprise). It is not available during a free trial.
You can approve an OAuth app in the HubSpot account you want to connect.
Connecting HubSpot
Step 1: In Spear, open your agent from the left sidebar, then go to the Tools tab.
Step 2: Find the HubSpot card ("Read and write deals, lists, and contacts") and click Connect.
Step 3: HubSpot opens its authorization screen. Choose the HubSpot account, review the access being requested, and approve.
Step 4: You're returned to Spear. The card now shows a connected state.
Note: You can also start from the HubSpot App Marketplace listing — the Install button sends you to this same card, signing you in to Spear first if needed.
Asking about your CRM
Open the assistant from the sidebar and ask a question the way you'd ask a colleague:
"Show me my HubSpot contacts by lifecycle stage"
"Which companies did we add to HubSpot last week?"
"Who owns the open opportunities in EMEA?"
The assistant queries HubSpot as it answers. Expand the Thought for… step under any reply to see exactly which HubSpot tools it called.
Importing contacts and companies
Step 1: Go to Lists.
Step 2: Click Create list.
Step 3: In the Import from dialog, choose HubSpot, then Next.
Step 4: The assistant walks you through choosing what to pull — filter by lifecycle stage, owner or created date.
Step 5: Review the selection before confirming. Nothing is imported until you approve it.
Who the connection covers
The connection belongs to your Spear organization, not to an individual user. An admin creates it once, and from then on the assistant can use it for anyone in that organization.
Two ways to limit or end access:
Toggle off — the assistant immediately stops using HubSpot, but the OAuth grant stays in place, so you can switch it back on without re-authorizing.
Disconnect — ends the connection entirely and drops the stored credential.
Both take effect immediately. You can also revoke from the HubSpot side at any time, under Settings → Integrations → Connected Apps in HubSpot.
What Spear stores, and what it doesn't
No copy of your HubSpot records. Answers and imports are generated from live requests. Spear persists only what you explicitly import into a Spear list.
The access token is held by our OAuth broker (Nango), not by Spear directly.
Every tool call is logged and audited — organization, tool name, outcome and latency — so access is reviewable.
FAQ
Does the assistant change my HubSpot data? It works only against your own HubSpot records, and only when you ask it to. It doesn't run in the background, and it never imports prospect data into HubSpot. Every call it makes is logged.
Do I need the Spear + HubSpot app as well? No. They're independent. Connect the one that matches what you want to do, or both.
Which Spear plans include this? Starter, Growth and Enterprise. It isn't available during a free trial.
Can I connect more than one HubSpot account? One HubSpot connection per Spear organization.
Why does an admin have to connect it? The connection is created at the organization level, so it needs an admin to authorize it once. After that no other member has to do anything.
Troubleshooting
I don't see a Connect button, or the card is greyed out. Check you're an organization admin on an active paid plan.
I already connected, and the Install button in HubSpot doesn't reopen anything. That's expected. Once the connection exists, manage it from your agent → Tools rather than from the Marketplace listing.
The assistant says it can't reach HubSpot. Open your agent → Tools and check the HubSpot card shows as connected. If the grant was revoked in HubSpot, it'll show as disconnected — reconnect it.
Answers look out of date. They shouldn't — queries run live. If a record changed in HubSpot seconds ago, retry the question.
