Most card problems are fixed by updating the card. While a renewal is being retried you keep access, and nothing is deleted if it never goes through.
The two card failures
Insufficient funds on your card. The charge was declined for balance. Top up, or use another card.
We couldn't verify your card. Usually a wrong number or an expired card. Any other decline shows this message too. Re-enter the details carefully, or try another card.
Each has its own message, so if you are writing to us, quoting the exact one saves a round trip.
What happens while a payment is failing
You keep paid access while it is being retried. You are not locked out the moment a charge fails. Your next month's credits wait until a payment goes through.
You will see a prompt to update your payment method. Updating it is the whole fix, and the retry then succeeds.
If collection never succeeds, the subscription ends and the app locks until you choose a plan again. Nothing is deleted.
If you cancel while a payment is failing, the cancellation is immediate, access ends at once, and the unpaid invoice is voided, so nothing further is attempted on your card. Tell us if you see an attempt after that. See Managing your subscription.
Payment action required
This is the message you get when a new subscription has not cleared its card check, and it is the one that looks like nothing is happening.
When you start a trial, Vamos places a temporary $0.50 authorisation to confirm the card works. It is released immediately and never charged. It usually takes seconds. Until it passes, Billing already says Payment action required and the workspace stays on free-plan limits.
If the card is declined, the plan stops there and Billing says Payment action required. Waiting does not clear it. Update the card and the check runs again, which is the whole fix.
Some banks also ask you to confirm a payment themselves. When that happens, complete the confirmation your bank shows you, then the charge goes through.
Where to fix it
Settings, then Billing, then Manage subscription. That opens the billing portal, where the card lives.
Checking whether a charge went through
Settings, then Invoices lists every payment on the workspace that went through, each marked Paid. A charge that failed is not listed there. Receipts come from Stripe.
If you were charged and should not have been
Write to us with the invoice number. It is on the invoice that the download button on that page opens. See Refunds for what is eligible.
