Edit the Boundary

Once you've set the project boundary, you can adjust it any time

Written by Holly Conrad Smith

Sites change as a deal moves: a parcel gets added, a corner gets cut off. Edit the project boundary any time in the boundary editor, without starting a new project.

Open the boundary editor

There are multiple ways to open the project boundary editor:

  • In the Layers panel, right-click Project Boundary and choose Edit boundary.

  • Right-click the boundary on the map and choose Edit project boundary.

  • Press Space to open the Command Bar and search for Edit Project Boundary.

  • Open Project Settings and click Edit Project Boundary.

  • In the Cut & Fill app, click Edit Boundary.

The boundary editor opens next to the drawing toolbar. It reads Editing project boundary, and adds unsaved once you make a change.

Change the boundary

You can restart or add more boundaries using the toolbar:

  • Click Clear to remove the boundary.

  • Click Add shape to draw another polygon. If they touch, Giraffe merges it into the original boundary. If they do not touch, Giraffe adds the area to the site area but leaves the polygon as its own shape.

  • Click Point to set the project's location as a single point instead of a boundary.

🚨 Warning: Switching to a point replaces the boundary polygon, and the site area is lost. Giraffe asks you to confirm with Replace.

In boundary edit mode, you can change the boundary in a variety of ways:

  • Right-click any data layer on the map and choose Add to project boundary to merge it in.

  • Right-click any polygon and choose Set project boundary to replace the whole boundary with it.

  • Drag the boundary's control points and extrusion handles to reshape it.

Save or cancel

  • Click Save changes to apply your changes to the project.

  • Click Cancel to leave the boundary as it was. If you've made changes, click Discard to confirm.
