Move
Click and drag a geometry to move it.
Snap to other geometries while moving
Line a building up with its neighbors, or set it exactly on a setback line, by snapping as you move. Smart Snaps and Base point move both snap without holding any key.
Smart Snaps: Drag a geometry near another geometry. Guidelines appear when the two line up center to center or edge to edge. Release to drop it in line.
Base point move: For an exact move, press B. Click the point to move from, then click where it should land. Hover near a corner of another geometry to snap to it before you click.
Smart Snaps is on by default. Turn it off in your snap settings if you want to move freely.
Rotate
Select a geometry to rotate.
In 2D (top view), a rotation handle appears. Click the handle and drag to rotate.
Hold shift to snap to 15 degree increments.
In 3D, mouse over the bounding box corner until a curved arrow appears. Click and drag to rotate.
Advanced Move Commands
Base point move, Base point rotate, Orient, Mirror, Flip horizontally, and Flip vertically share the Base point tool in the drawing toolbar. Click its down arrow to choose one. For each of them, select a geometry first, or click the geometry after you start. For Base point move, Base point rotate, Orient, and Mirror, hold Option/Alt when you finish to move a copy and leave the original in place.
Base point move
Base point move moves a geometry from one exact point to another, like shifting a building so its corner sits on a setback line.
Press
B, or click the Base point tool and choose Base point move.Click the point to move from.
Click where that point should land. OR type a distance to move that far in the direction of your mouse.
Hover near corners to snap to them before you click.
Hold
Shiftto lock the move to set angles from the grid.Press
Escto cancel.
Base point rotate
Base point rotate turns a geometry around a point you choose, not around its center.
Press
Shift+B, or click the Base point tool and choose Base point rotate.Click the point to rotate around.
Click a reference point to rotate from.
Move your mouse to rotate, then click to set the angle. OR type an angle in degrees.
Snap to a corner or midpoint for the point to rotate around.
Hold
Shiftto snap the angle.
Orient
Orient moves and rotates a geometry in one step, so two points on it line up with two points somewhere else. Use it to drop a building onto a lot at the right angle, or match a block to a street edge.
Click the Base point tool and choose Orient.
Click the first reference point on the geometry.
Click the second reference point on the geometry.
Click where the first reference point should land.
Click where the second reference point should land. Giraffe moves and rotates the geometry to match.
Orient moves and rotates. It doesn't resize the geometry. Hold Shift on the last click to snap the angle.
Mirror
Mirror reflects a geometry across a line you draw, like making a matching neighbour from one townhouse plan.
Select the geometry you want to mirror. OR skip this step and click the geometry after you start the tool.
Press
Shift+M, or click the Base point tool and choose Mirror. You can also choose Mirror from the Command Bar.Click to start the line to mirror across, then click to end it.
Hold Option/Alt to keep the original and mirror a copy.
Flip horizontally and Flip vertically
Flip horizontally and Flip vertically reflect a geometry in place across a line through its center, with no line to draw.
Select one or more geometries.
Click the Base point tool and choose Flip horizontally or Flip vertically. OR right-click the geometry and choose Edit, then the flip you want.
Flip horizontally swaps the top and bottom of the selection. Flip vertically swaps its left and right. The flip line follows the angle of your grid.
