Moving fast through a feasibility study means not stopping to hunt through menus for the right tool. Quickly search through all of the available commands in Giraffe instead.
Open the Command Bar
Press Space or Cmd/Ctrl + K. It opens wherever your drawing toolbar is docked, which is the top of the screen by default. You can move the drawing toolbar to any edge.
Search for a command
Type to search for any command.
Click the command to start using it.
Some commands require a geometry to be selected before using them.
All Command Bar commands
The Command Bar searches every item in the menu bar and every app you can open. It also has these commands of its own. Commands like Invert Selection, Look at Selected, and Offset by Amount only live in the Command Bar.
Draw
Draw Polygon (
P). See Polygon Tool.Draw Rectangle (
R). See Rectangle Tool.Draw Line (
L). See Polyline Tool.Draw Point, Draw Circle, Draw Box, Draw Sphere, Draw Cylinder, Draw Cone, Draw Pyramid, and Draw Wedge: Draw a shape with no usage applied.
Draw Patch. See Patch Tools (Plus roofs and ramps).
Draw Ramp (Experimental): Draw a rectangle, and Giraffe turns it into a 2 m tall ramp that slopes up along its length.
Make Roof (Experimental): Turn each selected shape into a 5 m tall roof that peaks along the shape's center line.
Draw Building: Type Draw Building to see your project's building usages, then choose one to draw it.
Measure
Measure (
Shift+L): Measure a length or area on the map.Dimension (
Shift+D). See Dimensions Tool.
Edit and modify
Split (
X) and Offset Split (Shift+X): Cut a shape along a line, or at an exact distance along one of its edges.Offset (
Shift+O) and Align Edge: Grow or shrink a shape, or line up one edge with another.Push Pull (
Shift+G): Push or pull a building's faces, edges, and points in 3D.Offset by Amount: Type a distance to grow the selected geometries by that amount. Type a negative number to shrink them.
Align Feature: Slide a geometry flush against an edge.
Extend Line: Stretch a line until it meets a target shape or line.
Mirror (
Shift+M): Flip your selected geometries across a line you draw.Scale: Pick a base point and two reference points. Your selected geometries resize by the ratio of the two distances from the base point.
Flip Horizontally and Flip Vertically: Mirror the selected geometries in place, across a line through their center that follows the project grid.
Simplify. See Simplify, Open and Close.
Join: Connect selected lines whose ends touch into longer single lines.
Explode and Bake. See Exploding & Baking.
Vertex Edit: Move, add, or delete a shape's individual points.
Edit Flow Handles (
Shift+A): Show the drag handles of the flow on your selected shape, so you can adjust its settings on the map. Run it again to cycle through the handle sets.Recalibrate Stack Order: Renumber every geometry's stack order to 0, 1, 2, and so on. The order stays the same, and any gaps close.
Move and rotate
Base Point Move (
B) and Base Point Rotate (Shift+B): Move or rotate geometries from an exact point.Orient: Move and rotate geometries in one step so two points line up with two targets.
Combine and convert shapes
Union, Difference, Intersection, and Boolean. See Boolean Commands.
Merge Lines: Combine the selected lines into one line geometry with several parts, even if they don't touch.
Close Line (Create Polygon) and Open Polygon (Create Line). See Simplify, Open and Close.
Convert to glTF Instance: Save the 3D look of the selected geometries as a glTF model on the project, and put one model point in their place.
Align and distribute
Align Top, Align Bottom, Align Left, Align Right, Align Horizontally, and Align Vertically. See Align and Distribute.
Distribute Horizontally and Distribute Vertically, by Equal Centers or Equal Gap. See Align and Distribute.
Select
Deselect (
Esc). See Select Tool.Invert Selection: Select every geometry that isn't selected now, and deselect the ones that are.
Lasso (
O): Draw a freehand loop on the map to select the geometries inside it.Select Points, Select Lines, Select Polygons, Select Groups, Select Blocks, and Select Feature by ID. See Select by ID or Type.
Eyedropper (
Y): Copy one geometry's properties onto another.Toggle Remember Properties: Turn on or off keeping your last used properties, so new geometries you draw start with them.
Groups
Group (
Cmd/Ctrl+G). See Create a Group.Ungroup (
Cmd/Ctrl+Shift+G). See Ungroup a Group.Edit Group and Add to Group. See Edit a Group.
Blocks
Block. See Create a Block.
Edit Block and Add to Block. See Edit a Block.
Make Block Unique: Give the selected block copies their own new block definition, so changes to them no longer change the other copies.
Consolidate Blocks to Active Layer: Pick a block to move it, everything inside it, and any blocks nested in it onto your active drawing layer.
Consolidate Blocks to Active Scenario: Pick a block to set it, everything inside it, and any blocks nested in it to your active scenarios.
View
Frame Selected (
Shift+F): Zoom the camera so your selected geometries fill the view.Look at Selected: Turn the 3D camera to face the center of your selection without zooming.
Center on Project: Zoom the map to your project boundary.
Isolate (
H) and Isolate (Selected Only) (Shift+H). See Isolate & X-ray.Toggle X-Ray Mode. See Isolate & X-ray.
Toggle Align to Grid: Rotate the 2D view so the grid lines run straight up and across your screen. Run it again to turn this off.
Reset Grid: Put the grid back to its default: centered on the project origin, facing north, with 10 m (30 ft) spacing.
Project and content
Edit Project Boundary: Reshape your project boundary.
Open Content Library: Open the Content Library on the Workspace tab, to browse content shared across your workspace.
Export to Content Library: Save project content, including any selected geometries, as a content pack in the Content Library.
Clean up the project
Delete Empty Draw Layers, Delete Unused Usages, Delete Unused Flows, Delete Unused Blocks, and Delete Unused Scenarios. See Project Cleanup.
Purge: Run all the cleanups at once. This removes empty drawing layers and unused usages, flows, blocks, scenarios, and custom properties. See Project Cleanup.
Why a command shows as unavailable
When you can't use a command right now, the Command Bar lists it under Unavailable, with the reason next to it in gray. Here's what each reason means:
select something first: The command works on a selection. Select one or more geometries, then open the Command Bar again.
select 2 or more features: The command needs more geometries selected. The number in the message tells you how many.
project is read-only: You have view-only access to this project.
map is still loading: Wait for the map to finish loading.
no active project: Open a project first.
not available in a space: The command only works inside a project.
no active layout: Choose a layout first.
upgrade to access: The command isn't included in your plan.
needs project admin: Only a project admin can use it.
