Import Data in Sites

Import a CSV of sites or read a PDF into a new project

Written by Holly Conrad Smith

Bring your existing deal list into Giraffe in one step. Upload a CSV of addresses and Sites finds each parcel and creates a project for it. Upload a PDF, such as an offering memorandum, and Giraffe AI fills in a project for you.

Sites is in beta. Have feedback? We'd love to hear it.

Import a CSV of projects

  1. Open the Upload tab.

  2. Drop a CSV or TSV file on the page, or click to choose one. You can also paste CSV text with Cmd/Ctrl + V.

  3. Check each column under Map your columns. Map every important column to a workspace property.

  4. Click Confirm & locate. Sites finds the parcel for each address.

  5. Fix any addresses Sites couldn't find.

  6. Click Import projects.

When the import finishes, Sites shows how many projects it created. Click Upload more to import another file, or Done.

Map your CSV columns

Sites detects common column names, such as Name, Address, Latitude, and Longitude. Choose what each column becomes:

  • Project name

  • Address (find parcel)

  • Latitude or Longitude

  • An existing workspace property

  • Keep as field

  • New workspace property, which adds the column to your workspace properties

  • Skip

Every CSV needs an address column, or both a latitude and a longitude column.

Map important columns to workspace properties

Map every column that matters to a workspace property. Choose an existing workspace property, or choose New workspace property to create one. Sites sets a new property's type from the values in the column.

Workspace properties are how Giraffe tracks information across your whole portfolio. Map a column to a workspace property when you want to:

  • Group the Pipeline by it, such as status or stage

  • Filter or total it, such as price or site area

  • Filter or style the Portfolio Layer by it

  • Keep its values consistent, with the same type and dropdown options on every project

Choose Keep as field only for one-off details you won't compare across projects. A kept column saves as a Sites-only field on each project. It has no type or dropdown options, and it doesn't appear in your workspace properties.

🚨 Warning: Keep as field doesn't create a workspace property. Choose New workspace property for anything important, such as status, price, or owner.

Format addresses in your CSV

Write each address in full, with the city, state, and postcode.

  • Australia: 400 George St, Sydney NSW 2000

  • US: 440 Burroughs Street, Detroit, MI 48202

Australian addresses use the Australian cadastre. US addresses use Regrid and need a Regrid credential that you pick in Sites settings. Rows with only latitude and longitude get a small placeholder boundary.

Fix addresses that couldn't be found

Sites lists any addresses it couldn't match, with the reason, such as multiple matches.

  • Click Edit, correct the address, and press Enter to retry.

  • Click Skip to leave that row out.

  • Click Skip all to leave out every unmatched row.

Leave the Upload tab during an import

An import keeps running when you switch tabs. A chip in the bottom-right corner shows its progress. Click the chip to return to the import.

Import a PDF into a project

  1. Open the Upload tab and drop a PDF, or click to choose one.

  2. Giraffe AI reads the PDF and fills in project fields. Fields filled from the PDF show a PDF tag.

  3. Check the Site address. Click Look up parcel, or Pick from map to click the parcel yourself.

  4. Click Review & create project, check the fields, and create the project.

PDF import needs an Anthropic credential. US sites also need a Regrid credential.

Import limits

  • Sites accepts .csv, .tsv, and .pdf files.

  • A CSV can be up to 50 MB.

  • A PDF can be up to 20 MB.

  • Sites supports Australian and US addresses.

Addresses you import are sent to Giraffe's parcel data services to find each parcel.
