Yes, you can use the Glede gift card abroad!
The gift card works like a regular bank card and can be used in all physical and online stores that accept Mastercard – both in Norway and abroad.
That being said, you cannot send the Glede gift card to just any country; as of today, you as the sender can send the Glede card to Norway and Sweden.
🌍 How does it work abroad?
You must have activated the gift card in the Glede app
Add the card to Apple Pay or Google Pay
Then you can pay contactlessly in physical stores abroad, just like at home
You can also shop in foreign online stores that accept Mastercard.
💱 Are there any fees?
Yes – when purchasing in a currency other than Norwegian kroner, a currency exchange fee (2.99%) is applied.
This means that:
If you buy something for 1,000 NOK in local currency, 1,029.90 NOK will be deducted from your gift card
The fee is standard practice for card payments abroad and is used to cover the cost of currency exchange.
📌 Remember:
You must have enough balance on the Glede gift card to cover the currency exchange fee. You cannot have a negative balance.
Not all terminals abroad support contactless payment – but most do
