How to add Embedded Products to your Blog Posts

This article walks through all of the steps to add embedded product cards directly into the content of your blog posts.

We all know that content helps drive SEO. You’ve heard it a million places, and you’ve even heard from us about how creating high-quality, relevant, and targeted content such as blog posts will help your site rank in search engines to show up to people with relevant search terms.

So, many of you have created blog posts. Great, now what? Well, we want to do our best to convert the people who land on your website because of this content, to become customers of your products. To this end, we already had “product cards” which show up on the side of the blog (or the bottom, on mobile). The goal of these cards is to highlight related products which they can click into.

Although still valuable, the challenge with these cards, particularly on mobile, is that they don’t show up in the blog, but outside of it, at the bottom of the page for mobile users. To solve for this problem space, we have created a new feature that embeds product cards directly in-line with your blog post content. Follow the steps below to enable this feature:

  1. Login to your Gondola account here:

  2. Navigate to the Blog editing section of the Gondola Platform and select the blog post you wish to add embedded products to.

  3. On the right side of the Blog Edit screen, you will see a box that says "Embedded Product Card. This selection will be Disabled by default. If you wish to add an embedded product card to your blog post, switch this to "Enabled".

  4. Once you enable the feature, a dropdown option will appear where you can select which product you would like to embed into your blog post. You can also select "Auto" and let the algorithm choose which product to embed. The algorithm selects a product based on the following criteria:

    1. If you have product categories enabled and it will choose a random product within the same category

    2. If you do not have product categories enabled it will choose a random product within your entire product library

  5. Scroll down to the bottom of the Blog Edit page to assign the blog to a specific product category:

  7. Once you have enabled the Embedded Product Card feature and selected the product or "auto" to be displayed, click "Save" in the top right corner. Congratulations! You have successfully added an Embedded Product Card to your blog post. This is how it will look live on your website:

While the feature currently allows only one product card to be embedded in each blog post, in a future update, we hope to add the capability to have 2, 3, 4, or even more products to improve your cross selling capabilities!
