Rule Engine - Tag Rules

Turn the tags you already use into rules every booking follows.

Written by Huong Pham

Why We Built This

Every facility runs on rules — which dogs can’t do group play, which customers need a call before booking, which pets need a room to themselves. Today those rules live on sticky notes and in your team’s heads. Online, nothing stops a booking you’d never accept at the front desk, so many facilities keep services offline rather than risk it.

AI Rule Engine turns the tags you already use into rules Goose enforces for you. Describe a rule in your own words, review it, and it’s applied to every booking — at the front desk and on your online booking page.

What It Means for You

  • Take more bookings online, with confidence. The rules you’d enforce at the front desk now apply online too.

  • Stop relying on memory. New hires and busy mornings no longer mean a missed rule.

  • Set rules in plain language. No forms or settings to learn — describe the rule, check it, publish.

  • Keep your team in control. Staff can always override a rule when they need to make a judgment call.

  • Give pet owners a clean experience. They see the offer as unavailable and are asked to call you. Your tags and reasons are never shown.

How It Works

Rules are built on tags your team already uses — nothing new to set up in your pet or customer records.

1. Open AI Rule Engine. You’ll find it in Goose admin under location setup. Your tags and offers load automatically.

2. Describe a rule in your own words. For example, “Solo Play pets can’t book group daycare.” AI Rule Engine picks out the tag and the offers and builds the rule for you.

3. Review and publish. Before anything goes live, you’ll see exactly who’s affected and which offers become unavailable.

4. Staff see the rule when booking. In Goose admin, the blocked offer shows as unavailable with the reason. Staff can override it and carry on with the booking.

5. Pet owners see it online. On your booking page, the offer shows as unavailable with a prompt to call you.

6. Ask why a pet can’t book. Not sure which rule is stopping a booking? Ask AI Rule Engine about the pet, the offer and the date, and it tells you.

A Few Things to Know

  • Rules work with pet tags and pet owner tags. Tags are still created in Goose admin; AI Rule Engine reads them automatically.

  • A pet owner tag applies to every pet on that account.

  • Rules can target specific offers, room extras and pet perks. A rule covering “all offers” applies to primary offers — room extras and pet perks need their own rule.

  • Rules apply when a booking is made or changed. Adding a tag doesn’t affect bookings that are already confirmed.

  • AI only helps write the rule. Once published, the rule is applied the same way to every booking.

  • For groups on a shared CRM, tags come from your parent location, but each location sets its own rules.

  • If you used the earlier Hatch pilot: the “Check with Hatch” button is gone, because rules are now checked automatically. Any pricing rules you created are switched off for now.

  • Capacity limits, pricing and discounts, grooming duration, groomer scheduling and automatic tagging aren’t included yet. Ask for one and AI Rule Engine will tell you it isn’t supported.
