1. Introduction
About pharmacy shifts
These shifts will include multi-drop deliveries in the local area
Usually you will do multiple deliveries for 2-5 pharmacy branches per shift, and you'll have a few deliveries to complete at each one
Typical operating hours are Mon - Fri, between 9am-6pm
Please arrive on time to each branch on your schedule
After you collect and deliver from each branch remember to return the paperwork to that branch before moving on.
Package sizes
Size of packages will vary per order
Av. 40+ items per 4 hour shift
Av. 60+ items per 8 hour shift
2. Types of deliveries
Residential
Direct from pharmacy to patient's homes
Smaller packages
High number of drops, short distances between drops
Care Homes
Longer distances, fewer drops
Usually small crates carrying medication
Collections/GP’s
Collection of prescription forms from local GP surgeries
You will be given a labelled envelope from the pharmacy for each collection to show them why you are there
MOD/Military
Usually a single delivery
Individual schedules
Longer distances - up to and above 25+ miles each way
3. Training
Getting started
Review your schedule. See what branches you need to visit and what routes you will be doing.
Bring your UK ID e.g. driving licence.
Arrive to each pharmacy branch on time and let us know if you are running late.
When you arrive at the pharmacy only take the amount of deliveries requested on your schedule

Arrival time
Here are a few things to look out for:
Doorstep check (shifts)
Please follow these doorsteps checks on every delivery for safety and security:
✅ Let the recipient know which pharmacy you are delivering from
✅ Ask them to confirm the name and address that is on the prescription
✅ If they can provide the matching info, deliver it
❌ If not, take it back to the pharmacy
Deliver ONLY to the named person or a parent, guardian, or carer.
If you don't deliver to the correct person, it can have some serious consequences both to you and the patient.
Patient not home?
❌ Never leave packages unattended
❌ Do not post medication - even if asked
❌ Do not leave safe
❌ Do not leave with a neighbour
✅ Always return undelivered medications to the pharmacy

4. Controlled drugs
What is a controlled drug?
It is a drug or other substance that is tightly controlled by the government because it may be abused or cause addiction.
At collection:
You will need to sign for controlled drugs on a form like this:
You will also be given paperwork that you must get signed by the recipient to prove you have delivered them. This is often stapled to the medication bag.
How to deliver controlled drugs:
Once you've collected them, sort them in the delivery boxes provided to help you deliver them in the correct order
Take the paperwork with you to be signed by the recipient at delivery
Do the regular doorstep check
Get the patient signature on the paperwork
Return the paperwork to the pharmacy the same day
5. Troubleshooting
If you are going to be late or if the wrong drugs were delivered, please contact the pharmacy team immediately.

6. Other
Routing
We do not hold any patient data on our system, so the deliveries will needed to be routed on your own device (Google, Waze etc.). Please delete any address data at the end of your shift.
